"Beech Hill" is everywhere

Post by
Hello from Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada.

I have a map display issue: the label "Beech Hill" appears almost continuously on my iPhone screen, no matter where I go.

As far as I know there is no place called in my area named Beech Hill, and I do not understand why it moves around so much.

Here are some examples:

I've reported this too. See this thread for example.

Basically, areas labeled as "Beech Hill" show up everywhere on the app map. I've noted several areas, and scoured the editing map for any streets or places tagged as "Beech Hill" but come up empty handed except for this gas station. I haven't fixed this gas station, by the way, because I want to preserve the one instance I have found with this incorrect data.

This "Beech Hill" error is very annoying and I don't know what else can be done. Can the issue be pushed up to someone with better access to the map data?

Uggh. Well I guess it's not a critical problem, just esthetic.

I think "massive error" is a bit hyperbolic. The "Beech Hill" issue is a little distracting and annoying, but it has no effect on routing or any other important Waze function. I do want to see it fixed, though...

I haven't noticed any Beech Hill problems lately. I guess the problem is now resolved?

I too have looked in to this issue trying to fix the map without any luck... very annoying. It seems to be anywhere East of HWY 102 and South of the Airport.

It's most likely a "city smudge", or at least labels left over from one that was fixed, where the city layer has not been updated yet.

I have moved this thread to the "Update Requests" forum, to bring this to the attention of the most experienced smudge-hunters. ;)

Hello @SteveBoutilier

I apologize for letting you and others wait 3 years for addressing this.
First I moved this post to the appropriate local forum in NS.

Second I think the links created 3 years ago by @usa_1i8h16z3 are no longer working and I was wondering if you can either create new links to explain the problem.

When I searched for 'Beech Hill, NS' on Waze Map Editor (WME) I see this area. Now I need you to explain what is wrong? What do you see where? What is it that you should see instead and where?

If you reply with the information I was asking for I promise to find the best resolution for your problem as quickly as possible.

HM.

What you should do is using the Cities layer try to identify map elements with that name that may be on WME and causing this.
If you are not successful finding them it may be an issue with smudge city.
You can use this form to report them. Keep in mind that it may take long time for staff to get to clean this, all depending on their other priorities.
I hope this is helpful.
