Rural locations and un-paved roads

Post by Kayos_On_The_Road
Hi,

I'm looking at some map updates for some rather more remote locations. Some of the roads are not paved, but I'm hesitant to use the "Dirt Road/4x4 trail" road type. Should these be Street road type regardless of the driving surface?

Thanks
Kayos

Dirt Roads route like Primary Streets (if I remember correctly), with the exception of the client settings.

It's important to note that this doesn't make the road unusable -- it just increases the penalty so it has to be a significant gain to the user.

With regards to BC-specific roads -- if it is a named highway (I found a list somewhere on the Ministry of Highways site), then it should be a minor (or major) highway regardless of the road surface.

Yeah, and I'm one of the complainants (of Google's issues on that front).

If it's the ONLY way there, the penalties don't matter. If they're back-roads to the same place as a paved highway, it's important that they're mapped correctly, otherwise you might get one of those complaints. :)

It was the routing that I was concerned about and what sort of penalties there might be. I know that there were some old complaints about mapping systems that sent people over dirt roads when they shouldn't have been (Apple, and Google as well when it first started).
