Forgive me if I'm posting in the wrong location but I can't find a simple way to get in contact with anyone from Waze.

I am a construction engineer with the City of St. John's, the largest municipality in the province of Newfoundland and Labrador. Part of my duties is reporting construction zones for road work to the public. We're currently using a text-based system on our website and I'd like to be able to avail of Waze/Google Maps to update the public on road construction if possible.

Currently Waze/Google Maps is updated with (some) construction information although I'm not sure who's doing it, perhaps just everyday users. I would be able to update the waze database with more trustworthy and accurate information if I could get this ability.

I have just registered with Waze, so I have zero current map edits, and a rank of 1. I also have a corporate iPhone, so while I do have the app installed, I cannot constantly use the app as it would drive up my data usage. I'm looking for the ability to update construction zones via desktop computer within the Northeast Avalon area of Newfoundland. If someone could message me with instructions on how to do so, or how to "level up" with waze, that would be appreciated.

Another bit I recently discovered.

When you ask for a route, Waze activates and pulls from the routing server the fastest/shortest path from historical segment data.


THEN it contacts a different server to pull any live traffic data and closures.

Sometimes it may error and doesn't pull the closure data correctly.

I discovered this when I had a UR that showed the driver was clearly routed down a ramp to a freeway that was closed and had been for several weeks.


It is extremely rare, but not unheard of....


Hopefully with the new closures system some of those errors won't be a problem.

Now that closures are live in the production WME, the UR are less needed. Some may still be preferred. But hopefully we will be getting more notes options on the closures soon.

DoctorKB - Did you have the rank restriction lowered to a certain rank in Canada? Or are you having it granted on a user by user basis?

Waze standard is 5.

The closure form still requests the submitter to place a UR at the closure location. That section should be removed or updated to suggest the placement of a MC instead.

Updated. I'm not sure if you can place an MC in an area that you don't have editing rights, so I left the other instructions in as well.

MC can be placed outside of editing area.

I used the old-style restrictions for the segments that close every night between 22h00 and 5h00 because that way I don't have to add 60 closures for two months.

FYI - I have some closures that don't always have the symbol in the WME. Reloading the webpage will have them show.
