2. New UI is really nice. I like the font size on my phone, xperia s so this is an improvement for me over the last version. However, I could see some complain about this as it could be really small on phones with a smaller display.
Xperia S has a 4.3 inches display. Samsung Galaxy S3 has 4.8 one
The raison of the problem in waze ? Maybe differences of font used from one phone to another ?
maybe differences in waze from one country to another ?
So I confirm that with my S3 (in France) I can't read the names on the map while driving. With previous version of waze, it was ok.
Maybe my age too, 54 years old
I propose the possibility to increase or decrease font in Waze settings itself like for transparency of some windows (black one).
Changing font in phone itself could cause problem in other applications.
(sorry for my english)

It looks great on my full hd tablet!

It's almost as if the distance instruction is blank, so minimal guidance kicks in and overrules the TTS and doesn't allow tts to come back in. Verrrrry annoying!
