1. what have been said about market share shrinking. Besides, "symbian is dead, windows is the future", it's what the CEO has been saying for years.

2. fragmentation on android is peanuts compared with symbian, where each device is it's own beast

3. from those million of users, a small portion knows what they are using, from those a small portion uses apps, from those a small portion needs waze, which means there are you and a dozen more potential users.

Disclaimer: i've worked for more than 10 years on the telco business but these points are true but Internet generalizations and meant tongue in cheek. With limited resources no one in their right mind would code for symbian anymore.

Totally agree. You are underestimating Millions of Symbian users! Nokia Belle after FP1 is the best SO. Just a little late... :(

Symbian market share is plummeting. Between Q3 2011 and Q3 2012 they dropped from 14.6 % to 2.3 % (new shipped phones)*. Nokias are solid and robust phones, but even those are normally replaced every few years, so the user base will be close to 0 in a few years.

There is no economic reason to continue development for Symbian, a dying operating system. You are still getting map updates, traffic info, reports, etc., just no new features.

In the 3rd quarter of 2012 72.4% of all smartphones ran on Andriod, iOS was in a distant second with 13.9%. Symbian was a very distant 5th with 2.6% behind RIM (5.3%) and Bada (3.0%). Windows phones only had 2.4% of the market at the time. Waze is concentrating on the Operating Systems that will reach the most users.

That being said, when a recent server change impacted Blackberry (RIM) users (another OS which is no longer being supported) Waze did listen & made a fix to keep the legacy system work for them.

If you read that, and read the original post, then you would see their reasoning. (You may or may not agree with their reasoning, but there it is.)
