Level4(auto) Update: West Sussex - Worthing (A2031 - South S

Post by smkwalker
My Level: 2
Reason for request: Had a UR come up about the rail crossing in Worthing. I know this crossing can be a complete pig a lot of the time during the day due to it being next to the station. Meaning that the barriers are down more often than not and it can be quicker to go via other routes. Is there a way for us to go about marking this as a possible bad/slow way for waze to route due to this issue?

I see another L5 editor has responded on the UR and some good points are made.

As mentioned there, there are relatively few crossing points for the railway line, so all are likely to be busier than other roads in the area. I see exactly the same situation where I live and railway lines cut up parts of SE London into isolated blocks.

The crossing is already mapped as it should be, including an intersection with the railway line. This will allow Waze to get good historical records of the speeds in the approaching segments, as well as transition times for the actual junction.

Unfortunately, this may well be an issue of perception. Sitting in a queue at the level crossing for 5 minutes may well be quicker than taking a diversion via another route that, whilst it's moving, is moving slowly. But sitting in a queue seems slower.

Again, from personal experience, my route to work includes a queue at traffic lights that is always 3-5 minutes long. But it's a sort-of-guaranteed 3-5 minutes because the traffic lights are regularly letting some cars through. And since the roads are fast leading to & from that junction, the wait is compensated for. But it still feels like an age when you're late for work.

Thanks for the reply Iain. I guess it's kind of one of those places that are luck of the draw. Sometimes you get through fine and won't get caught out and other times you may be stuck there for ages :)
