There is a reason - the repeated messing up of the car parks by other editors, leading to poor/completely wrong instructions.

The thing to remember is that airports are major transportation destinations. They also encompass a lot of possible destination points in a generally-confusing mess of limited-access roads with many lanes and complex one-way systems. So they really need the highest level or protection.

Airports are also the place where foreign editors arrive in the country, fire up Waze and get editing areas. Then they decide to "improve" Waze around the airport, without regard for local editing guidelines and knowledge. A few years ago, a chinese L4 editor completely broke the A4 outside Heathrow doing this. Later, after he got promoted to L5 and continued to edit badly around a dozen UK airports, we were forced to have him banned from editing.

Strangely enough, I don't think he ever flew into Stanstead. But I had to practically rebuild the car parks around here. I think 5 is justified for protection - and I'm tempted to lock everything else around here as well.

I agree with Iain, there is something about airports that seems to attract strange behaviour in the UK editors, let alone those visiting from overseas.
There seems to be a never ending pile of changes waiting for approval ( ) re-naming the terminals, the car parks and every other location on an airport. I suspect it is either bored passengers or waiting drivers with nothing better to do than "fiddle". Why they should think something as established as Heathrow Terminals 1-5 should suddenly need re-naming I cannot understand.

I bet Iain's finger is still twitching over the L6 button.
