Thanks Iain. I think I'll wait until I drive past it a few times to see how extensive the works are. You make a good point about the external appearance, and I think the runway is still recognisable from the road. I'll keep an eye on it long term.

I'm not sure it will really matter. How many people turn on their satnav to see if there's an airfield nearby?! If you're planning to fly, you normally know exactly which airport you're heading for before you ever consider how to get there.

It's also worth bearing in mind that a local airfield will be a considerably sized landmark. Even if it's closed, for several years, locals will say things like "drive past the airfield and then you'll come to a big set of traffic lights". Personally, I'm very much in favour of landmarking large features that are clearly visible from the road because they make it easier to relate your physical surroundings to the navigation map.

I would say the biggest consideration is "does it still look like an airfield from the road?". If it now looks like a housing estate or a building site, then it's probably better off removed from the map.
