Hi,

Please can I have this segment of the A2 - High St, Chatham downlocked to allow me to edit the incoming road (this bit) as there is a restriction allowing only buses and taxis to go straight on. All other traffic is directed up Upbury Way.

Many thanks,
Ian

I agree with what you say, having driven through this area many times recently. shame I didn't look too closely either.

Thanks anyway :)

I've downlocked that segment.

This will look weird, but you also need to make that loop of Upbury Way, Cross Street and Slicketts Hill into Minor Highway. Over longer routes, Waze "prefers" higher road types. If the loop is left as street, then the minor highway will look "broken" travelling eastbound and Waze may try to route an alternative unnecessarily.

If anyone thinks I'm wrong, by all means shout out.

Let me know when you're done. If I don't stick a L5 lock on it, someone will only change it back.

It's a shame nobody did - because what I said was bad advice. Thanks to Timbones for giving me a sanity check.

What I failed to do was zoom out and look at the bigger picture. There has obviously been some major development work in Chatham town centre. Specifically, it's pretty obvious that the main through-route should now be via the dual-carriageway A2 New Road to the south and then along Union Street/The Brook. High Street is single-carriageway, much narrower and - as you pointed out - bus-only westbound at the west end.

I'm have therefore gone in the opposite direction. Instead of upgrading normal streets to minor highway, I have actually downgraded High Street to primary road. It's obviously no longer intended to be the main through route and, I suspect, it may lose it's A-road status at some point in the future.

Again, if anyone wants to argue with this, by all means do so. ;)
