How to use the UK Roadworks sub-forum

Post by iainhouse
Sometimes it is necessary to edit the map to deal with temporary road closures or alterations caused by long-term roadworks. However, without any way to leave notes on the map, the reason for these changes may not be obvious to other editors. The intention is that this sub-forum should be used to record these changes so that the information is available to all editors and so that someone else can step in if you are not available. Please note: you should not edit the map for any road closure of less than 4 weeks.

If you need to edit the map because of roadworks, please start a new topic in this forum, following the guidelines below. Please also make sure you monitor the topic for posts from other editors. As the original poster, only you can update the original post or change the topic title to reflect new information.

Post Title: This should start with a tag of [PLANNED] or [IN PROGRESS]: the tag can be changed to [COMPLETED] when the roadworks are complete and all relevant map edits are done. (Editing the title of the original post changes the whole topic title)
e.g. "[PLANNED] Silk Street, Barbican, London" or "[IN PROGRESS] Sydenham Regeneration Project, London"
Permalink: A permalink to the relevant area or segment(s).
Description: A brief description of the roadworks in question and why editing the map is needed.
Links: URL links to any relevant information: e.g. council website, contractors website, forum topic discussing the problem.
Editing Actions Taken: A list of any connections, disconnections, turn changes etc. with a date for each action. You should keep this updated. This would also be a good time to stick a "review reminder" in your diary.
How To Finish The Roadworks: Instructions on how to put things back to the way they were: so that any future editor can take over.
Anything Else: Any other relevant notes. For example, if there is a Feed The Waze notification set up, or you expect to get email notifications of progress.

Once you have started the topic, please place a UR on the livemap where you have edited (left-click on the livemap and click on Report a problem). Give a brief description, a link to your new topic, your username and a "Please do not close". Please start the text with the tag "[ROADWORKS]" - then editors can use the UROverview script to filter them.
e.g. "[ROADWORKS] Sydenham Road Sep 2012-Sep 2013. See http://world.waze.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=55&t=32609 for details or PM to iainhouse. PLEASE DO NOT CLEAR".

If you have new information about roadworks listed in this forum, please post that information to the relevant topic. It would be polite to allow the original poster to make the necessary edit(s) and update the original post, but you can make the edits if you don't get a timely response. :)

Below is a template that you can copy (if you wish) when making a new post:

Note: if the roadworks only require a road closure, please submit a request instead of altering the map. Thanks.
