Poor geocoding in Edmonton, AB

Postby doctorkb » Wed Nov 28, 2012 5:28 pm

Searching for addresses in the full form (e.g. 3840 76 ave NW, Edmonton, AB), results in a point that is far (i.e. 15+ km) from the actual location.

Oddly enough, if you search for "Sawmill Banquet", the restaurant at this exact address, it finds the proper location.

This isn't the only address I've had not work... to the point where I've almost given up on having Waze determine my endpoint by address, rather just finding the spot and "tapping" to select my endpoint.

Any thoughts on this?

A user-reported error has noted that the search for address:
10125 124 St NW Edmonton
geocoded to here:
https://www.waze.com/editor/?zoom=5&lat ... TTTTTTTTFT
-- 10125 124 Ave NW Edmonton

This is a BIG problem!

Thanks, Alan... but this is a bigger issue than one address.

In fact, when I put the address in, I think I have about a 10% SUCCESS ratio on having it in the right place.

If Waze wants to be serious about this, they will find a reliable geocoding tool -- if it's using Bing primarily, it's obvious that Bing isn't a reliable one... at least not in this region, and likely all of Canada.

Funny, because Google never seems to get it wrong... and geocoder.ca does pretty darn good, as well.
