Waze rerouting mid-journey

Post by atrophicshiner
Hi everyone, picked up a UR today that suggests that Waze has repeatedly changed the suggested destination, and therefore routing, mid-journey to the Home location.
Pete wrote:Hello just to let you know waze in general is good. However it has a fault in that it often changes the desired destination by defaulting to my home address mid journey. Sorry to moan but this is really really annoying. It only becomes apparent that it's done this when I realise it's directing me home and this problem has wasted a significant amount of time. Many thanks Pete.
I have known Waze to begin routing to a frequent / regular destination while I've been searching for a different location and interrupting / overriding my searching. I have never known Waze to either change my destination mid-journey while free navigating or while following another route.

Throwing this out there to even find out if anyone has experienced this before asking in the general routing & navigation forum.

I have experienced Waze forcing my home journey on me at the point of journey selection but not after I have selected another journey. It is possible for me to think I have selected another journey and then find Waze has imposed the home journey on me, only because I was distracted during the process or was not quick enough. In that case I might only notice after a while and perhaps this is what Pete is experiencing.

A little additional information on the issue received via email. User is on iOS.
Pete wrote:This happens after a specific destination is inputted into waze and the 'go now' button is pressed. So after setting off on a journey to a specific destination it then changes this without notification to 'home'. It only becomes apparent after driving a portion of the journey and realising it's not going in the correct direction.
Guess it would help if we knew if this was happening when away from Home, then we could lean towards our own experiences.

Would it be worth suggesting enabling debug mode, and then submitting logs after the next occurrence [emoji780] Would be nice if someone was looking out for said logs at HQ.

No. I'm an occasional android beta user, and even on Beta, it's never happened.

Never seen this mid-journey, only auto-suggestions of Home/Work or calendar entry when starting off.

Funny this has cropped up. I was routing from one job to another. I'd started the journey in a location where the wireless coverage was very poor. Nevertheless after setting off Waze seemed to sort itself out and direct me in the correct direction. It was only when approaching a roundabout it sent me off 180deg in the wrong direction that I looked at the route overview and discovered Waze had decided it was time for me to go home.

The recovery was simple: I ignored Waze and drove to my intended destination. It did give me cause for thought though: always look at the overview to make sure Waze hasn't decided to send you home instead!

Regards,
Chris

Never happened to me either

Just a thought, could this maybe have happened....? User selects their route and navigates as normal. At some point on the journey, Waze attempts to recalculate and attempts to connect to the routing server but has difficulties. Error briefly pops up 'Error communicating with routing server' and drops the current route (this has happened to me before). Connection is reestablished and Waze then automatically tries to help by assuming you're driving home and then calculates a new route to the home address.
