Dummy Cameras

Post by Kevintiobraid
I've read the Wiki https://wazeopedia.waze.com/wiki/United ... my_Cameras
But what actually happens in the app when you approach a dummy camera?  Does the camera appear on the map but no notification?

Yep - that's pretty much what happens. :D

It's pretty rare that we need to use dummy cameras in the UK. I have used it occasionally for cameras that have been burned out or have a bag over them. It they aren't on the map, people will waste time & concentration trying to report them. And if a camera gives an alert when it's visibly not in use, the same problem applies.

Here's one near me that was added at my request after a UR. It shows up in the app, with a small red cross in one corner (so easy to miss), but doesn't give a voice alert warning. I think the general consensus for adding this one was that it is a reasonable enough replica (see the GSV imagery) made by a local resident to potentially have road users slam on the brakes when they saw it last minute!

There's a bug that Waze HQ have been aware of for over a year that sometimes causes cameras to not show up in the app. 99% of the time cameras are present in WME.

If you come across it again, by all means report in the app and we can add to the bug report, or if you remember the location you can post a permalink from the WME.

I think I'll add one here as it generates regular URs

Several on the M25 in the southern section - I think these are old cameras that have been decommissioned.

Hi,

I drove on the M1 from J35 down to London last night and noticed that a number of cameras, especially in the first half of the journey were not showing on waze... are these inactive cameras or just unmarked on waze?

TIA :)

They are, along with all of the other camera sites elsewhere on the M25 which haven't been upgraded, but where the original housings remain visible without any indication to approaching traffic that they're now just empty shells.
