ELGIN Hazard Reports [Feedback]

Post by
Just noticed a bunch of hazard reports around Uxbridge/Hayes that seem to have been imported from ELGIN which, like the recent addition of TrafficMaster data, ought to be a good thing...

...however, all of the reports I saw today were listed as having been reported 4 days ago, which could be something of a problem here given that one of them had a couple of comments attached to it saying the problem no longer existed...

and another set of lights which has probably been fixed by now...

and an accident which I'd ruddy well hope has been well and truly cleared up 4 days later!

So 10/10 for finally getting around to integrating ELGIN data, but 0/10 for the quality of the resultant reports. Bearing in mind I've been driving around this area all week and haven't noticed any of these reports until today, and bearing in mind that the only ones I can find in this area are all 4 days old, I suspect they've only just shown up in the app today despite there being little or no evidence to suggest the data is still valid.

Have been finding a user "Elgin" has been spamming the system in stating roadworks at various locations. Is there any way of removing and blocking such user from using Waze?

Been past about 40 to50 ELGIN roadworks reports today and only 1 was correct! I would say these are more of a hindrance than a help

I've had dozens of ELGIN roadworks messages pop up in my area (Devon and Cornwall) that have time-spans of a upto a year, just for a bit of patching works that may only take a few hours. They are cluttering up my maps and are virtually useless if they're going to stick around for months and months. Please can someone start a campaign to get them removed, unless the timespans are tightly controlled to a few days only?

For example, I have one that says:

Construction
Short duration Road Closure for Surface Treatment scheme 1st April 2015 - 31st March 2016. Details will be updated when available. Please refer to local signing for specific dates & timing.
Reported by: Elgin

and others with almost no information:
Construction
Resurfacing 15 16.
Reported by: Elgin

whatever that means!

Regards.

There is a persistent notification of roadworks at this location. The roadworks were removed over 2 months ago.
I think in this case the report is being renewed as soon as it is cleared (currently 2 days old), I think these are overnight works and this Wazer is getting a little tired of being warned every time they pass this location :(

Not sure we can really blame ELGIN for this, they need a footpath category that could be filtered. This is for closure of a footpath for use as a site compound.

Our area is still littered with irrelevant hazard reports.

One example is an entry to "replace damaged mesh panels" on the A127 at Rayleigh Weir which has been there ONE YEAR (and the works took only a few days and were non-disruptive anyway).

Another example is the Basildon Nevendon junction as per the attached in the last four days. Is it really necessary to place 8 or 10 hazards on one roundabout especially when the work is not actually happening?

Drivers don't want anything happening on the road or kerbside, only those things that manifestly affect traffic flow. I don't need to know if someone is surveying some traffic lights but I do need to know if a lane is blocked.

Can we do anything about this? What we have here is hazard pollution and I'm starting to ignore the warnings because they are 90% spam...

How about a software mod to allow users to flag them as "not here" and when this happens twice or three times they get removed?

Today is Saturday 17th December 2016: for many weeks now i have begun to notice road reports that are ages old and i would say virtually 100% of them are no longer valid. Over a month ago, now maybe two , there was road resurfacing in my area, which took about a two week period to complete, but has long since finished, but the report is still ever present. Sitting in my arm chair the other day i turned on my WAZE on my phone and searched around my area to find dozens of reports that were months old, attributed to ELGIN. Who is this ELGIN i was asking myself, some cocky guy trying to get points with fake reports i thought, but it seems that ELGIN is actually data from another source but the source data has been allowed to become stagnant and is messing up my journey with annoyingly false reports, pinging up on my phone screen all the time. Iv'e naively put in my own reports ( comments) of these reported events, stating they've been cleared ages ago, but i am clearly wasting my time as no one is taking any notice, is seems?

I checked again this morning and the resurfacing issue no longer appears on the WAZE live map at Swakelys Road; a change since last night: One small improvement at least !

https://www.waze.com/livemap?zoom=15&la ... n=-0.50123

When Oh when is this matter going to be rectified ? :? :? :?

Thank you, if anyone out there is listening? :?: :?: :?:

Update 18-12-2016:
ELGIN is not a person; although until i realised that i was getting very, very cross with him or her.

Looking at reports on Waze, it says they were submitted by ‘Elgin’, who I initially presumed was just another Waze user, until I discovered Elgin are the developers behind the roadworks.org website and it appears this data is being used by Waze.

WAZE needs to fix this situation as just adding in more and more reports from ELGIN but not clearing old ones is strangling the system and ruining a good app, and the enjoyment of driving and using it.
