Railways/Sidings 2016

Post by hublander
I was reading the UK Wiki on Types of Road to read the Guidance on Railways? Here

What I want to know which is not answered in the Wiki. Should we add Railway sidings to the map at a level of about 1 Railway segment for every 2 to 4 tracks? So that Users can see the Sidings on the map. My Example which I will Experiment with is the Jubillee Line Sidings near Stratford. North of the Road segment Here

I also would like to know the amount of Railways lines that are needed because at the moment it seems to be about 1 Railroad segment per line. No matter how many Lines run together. The reason I say this is that some line. 4 or more Lines run together and only one railroad segment to show it in the app.

Please let me know what other editors think?

I might do the sidings but I think speed data is important at the moment.

Here is an example on my Siding Drawing. I will connect it to the main lines once they are unlocked. Thought I would start here since when I worked for DLR, I did go to the Beckton depot and the Level Crossing at the entrance was not mapped. ;)

So 1 line for every 3 to 4 rails seems to work well. :D

Just need to wait for the Map update to see what it looks like. :D

It may not be explicitly stated but the Wiki page does say
Tracks should be drawn as simply as possible
and I take that as meaning we do not map parallel lines/tracks

Arguably siding don't need to be mapped at all as they are never likely to have Waze users on them so no risk in polluting any speed data for local roads, but I would say that they could be considered to be a visible landmark that could help orientate drivers to the map.

My view, is I'd be happy to see them mapped as simply as possible - so much as you suggested and also in line with the US guidelines:
Do not map every piece of parallel track, such as in sidings or yards, or industrial spurs that don't cross any roads. Your work may otherwise be seen as clutter, much like mapping every parking lot row.
