It highlights unverified speed limits for me
Silly me - there was I thinking that "No speed limit" meant "No speed limit"!! ;-)
You're right - the No speed limit selection does indeed show up Unverifed as well.
Thanks

M4 done. :D

If you can get to see the back of those signs, you'll usually see what the limit is for the main road
The second part of this point is worth paying attention to, as the increasing use of 20MPH zones means it's no longer safe to assume that in areas where the side roads are all signed as 30MPH, the main road will be 40+.
Note that in some cases there may not be any sign on the reverse, but that does not mean that the speed limits are the same. There is actually no requirement for signs if the main road is a higher speed limit and has repeaters within 100m of the junction, often the case with a 40mph urban road.

If you're really interested it's all detailed in the Traffic Signs Manual - chapter 3 (see section 14).

it is desirable to have accurate mapping of the real world...
.. apart from turn lanes, one-way 'Y's, car parks, .. ;)
Timbones wrote:Guidelines for Speed Limits:
  • Split segments at the exact point the speed limit comes into force
(unless it's within a few hundred yards of a T junction where traffic will be slowing down anyway)
My 2p:
I think exact mapping is fine where the speed limit changes on a single section of road, but I do think we have to be careful with speed limit changes at or close to junctions and roundabouts. Adding a node and thereby creating a new short segment where there are filter lanes in place for example, has the potential to affect the segment times and eta accuracy because of the way Waze records separate speed data for each direction in which traffic leaves a segment.

It is also worth noting that at junctions, the exact point the speed limit comes into force is not necessary the exact point at which the sign is located. Quite often the TRO will apply to the whole street, but the sign is located some metres along the road i.e. on the first convenient lamppost. I believe the recommendation in the Traffic Signs Manual is a max of 20 metres.

Perhaps the exception in the guidelines should therefore just say;
(unless it's within 20 metres of a junction)

There are several other types of advisory limits so I'm assuming that the same rules apply.
Signs I've come across:
  • 20 in green roundel (common in Scotland)
  • 'Twenty's Plenty' near schools - often featuring a child's artwork.
  • Crossroads or dangerous junction - similar to sharp bend signs

I have noticed today that a few UR's in London are complaining about Speed Limits.

Has this gone Live??
Could possibly be that V4 for Android has just been released and the speedometer is on as default.

Do we need to start adding nodes to break up segments in line with the camera positions?

yes - create a road, make the speed change & then remove the road added and save,

My first post - here goes!

I live in a new housing estate and have been adding new roads - and of course making sure I input speed limits. Now I know that not all mapped roads have speed limits, I'll be adding them as I come across them.

I just used this to get onto the forum really. A bit sad I know so I'll keep future postings for when I have something worthwhile to say.

All the best

Should there be a set speed limit of 30 mph or no limit at all?
I believe this is an advisory limit only, if it hasn't got a red circle around it then it is not a speed limit. See the guidelines in the first post about advisory limits.

If you see this sort of sign then you need to check what the speed limit is in that area, don't assume 30mph, look back for the previous sign, but in this case (assuming streetview is up to date) I believe it should be 30mph.
Yup only advisory https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/s ... 191955.pdf
