I think you are unduly cynical.

My take is more like:

from the people (who should be) in charge:
- we've made our money flogging this to Google, so we don't care any more.

from the programmers:
- some of the things that people are asking for are actually quite difficult (that's why we haven't done them before), and it's much more fun playing with the display code
- testing is not fun, we aren't made to do it, so we won't

The latest WME Beta seems to be causing problems with positioning of the WMEOD UI, trapping it in the narrow band across the top of the screen rather than allowing it the freedom of the whole WME viewport, and as with URO+ I'll be rolling out a fix for this soon...

I wonder if the checklist for each beta release goes something like this:

  • Add snazzy new features that we think are indispensable
  • Leave out features everyone has been begging us to include since the dawn of time
  • Tweak the UI once again so all the wiki screengrabs have to be redone
  • Randomly alter the code/page structure in such a way to break Twister-UK's scripts without actually changing how WME itself behaves
  • (Optional extra) Add in extra changes to the internal beta version and then promote it directly to production status without first releasing it for public beta testing, or indeed without apparently performing even the most trivial of in-house testing either...

Thanks for looking into this! Shame the wheels at OSI seem to be turning rather slowly, but I guess the more queries they get from people wanting access to their^WOUR data the more motivated they may be to move.

Hi Des

Unfortunately this government policy but there is ongoing talks of a proposal to make free certain Digital datasets in the next couple of years. Please keep an eye to our website for further updates.

Hi,

Thanks for that information. So from what I have read, you only sell access to your web map and it is not free to the tax payer.

Thanks for the info. Was this OSNI or the equivalent in the Republic?

Good point, forgot to mention that anyone who's got the OpenDataFullHeight and/or Canaries Map Tracker scripts installed should remove those when upgrading to WMEOD 2.0. Chrome users should also remove the main script and replace it with the webstore version, whereas Firefox users can do an in-place update.

Hi,

Had some contact the the Irish equivalent of OS and there is a cost implication for access. They are working on public release but don't anticipate anything before a couple of years!

V2.0: So anyone with a 1.x version should uninstall completely and then add the new script? :)

Thanks,

Version 2.0 integrates the OpenData FullHeight and Canaries Map Tracker helper scripts, fixes a lat/lon problem with the Canaries mapping site, and eliminates an illegal data access problem when editing outside of the UK.

It also marks the debut of WMEOD on the Chrome Web Store. Users who've got an earlier CRX version installed should remove that before installing 2.0.

Hi,

Yes, and email to the relevant authority will be dispatched. From others who have had dealings, I don't expect a reply any time soon... :D

AFAIK, Northern Ireland have their equivalent NI-OS, but the data is not freely available. It's also not as complete as for GB.

I suspect it's a similar arrangement in Ireland, though it's only a guess.
