Good catch! An errant quote was responsible for that little snafu, it has now been dispatched to the depths of digital oblivion...

Ooh ta, I'd forgotten it was update month... I'll start processing the data this evening.

  • Bug: when the bounding box disappears, the map 'bounces' as the map briefly acquires a scroll bar (in Chrome).
  • Any names that begin "St" (Saint) should be renamed to "St.". Separate from road number, if possible.
  • The WMEOpenData link to userscripts.org should have target="_blank".
Provisionally fixed these three, pending final testing later tonight...

  • Whenever the selection changes from one segment to another, update the list of road names (code below).
I'll play around with this code and see if, as I suspect it will, it breaks one of the features I use quite a bit... Doesn't mean I won't be able to use it, just means it might have to be added in as a user-selectable option.
Timbones wrote:
  • When displaying a bounding box for a selected road name, show any other boxes that have the same road name. This would be especially useful when a long road straddles two data tiles.
This fits in with an idea I want to experiment with for visualising the data, so chances are you'll see some sort of improvements here in a future release.

Just to clarify though, when you're seeing multiple results/bounding boxes for the same stretch of road, it's because the OS data splits roads whenever they cross an administrative boundary, it's nothing to do with the way I've tiled the data into 10km chunks. Knowing when a road crosses one of these boundaries can be useful...

Thanks

1.6 has now been released... http://userscripts.org/scripts/show/137249

Tim, I played around with your reselection code and think I've got a way for this functionality to co-exist with the current selection behaviour - need to spend a bit more time on it, so it didn't make the cut for this release, but expect to see something in a future release. Also noted your comment re the city name box, I'll look into that too.

Just a couple quick requests:
- do a copy of the Permalink, rather than moving it. Sometimes the links get pushed down, and I have to scroll.
- when clicking in the City box to type, automatically select that option.

:)
Done, done...

...and thrice done! The non-selected matches are now highlighted in grey.

Rounding off this release, 1.7 is now using the November 2012 OS data.

I'm off on a road trip back to the frozen north for a few days, so keep the suggestions flowing and I'll start coding them up when I get back - I definitely want to do something about the way the results are presented, and the idea of making the box floaty appeals to me...

An early chrimbo present to you all - v1.8 now presents itself in a draggable window (click-hold on the grey title bar to drag), so no more playing hide and seek with the results panel :D Just don't drag it too quickly, otherwise you might end up highlighting whatever is behind the window as the mouse cursor gets too far ahead of the relocating window.

Also tweaked the segment highlight/select logic to allow a new OS lookup to occur if you click on a new segment, deselecting existing segments in the process - as requested a while back by Timbones. As before, ctrl-clicking to add the segment to an existing selection will not trigger a new search.
