Slightly arcane question
There is a section of road I have recently edited to correct a speed limit. It is a country road where the national speed limit applies; so far so good.
However, the residents of the relevant hamlet put up some signage giving drivers a maximum speed limit of 20mph. The signage is not owned by, erected by or sanctioned by the local council, and it does not even try to masquerade as legally enforceable road traffic signs. The residents know that, legally, this amounts to a polite request to drivers, and as such it has had some success in moderating speeds through the village. Nonetheless, recently I found someone had edited Waze and set the speed limit on those segments down to the "request" level of 20mph.
I have a couple of concerns as a result. Firstly, if that user edits the segment back, could we unwittingly start to descend into the realms of WME vandalism? If so, who is the arbiter? Secondly, it's my belief that Waze should reflect the legal position, not the residents' preference, but I have some sympathy with their situation. What forms of map clarification are available? I've heard about map comments, but can't see how to add them.
Any thoughts, anyone?
