Can I edit postcodes in results?

Post by VincentGledhill
Hi people.

I have got lost using waze over the past week three times.

On each occasion it was because I used a UK postcode as my destination. The database is saved to the wrong point.

Is there any way we can put it right so that other wazers going to the same postcode get to the right place?

The way I believe it works is that when you do a search, whether it be for a postcode or another point of interest, Google or whoever it is returns a set of coordinates. Waze will then get you as close to these coordinates as it can. Sometimes this isn't the point you expect but it's not necessarily wrong. Either way there is not a great deal we can do about what we get back.

When you search for a business, especially one big enough to have it's own postcode, the coordinates returned will usually be for the centre of the building and not the front entrance or car park. Service roads round the back or adjacent streets may still be closer so it'll still take you there.

If you've added a new road just make sure that you've given it a city and name (or ticked the no name boxes) otherwise it'll never appear on the client map and remain bright red in the editor. It's a common new editor mistake. Also you need to check the turn restrictions as the default is deny. Try shift-z in the editor to highlight any restricted turns. There's loads of other helpful tips in the UK wiki. The link is in my signature.

At the moment I believe waze uses postcode info from external sources (probably google) and there isn't any way to correct it at the moment. They are working on implementing house number searches, but that isn't quite the same thing as you need the proper address

One of the problems I encountered last week I may have solved. Waze took me to the nearest point to my actual destination. This turned out to be a dead end road at the back of the company I was visiting. I didn't know where the company was so thought it had completely messed up.

When viewing and editing the map after writing my first forum post last night I noticed that the actual street where the company was situated was missing completely from the map. I edited the map and saved my changes.

It is my presumption (rightly or wrongly, I'm yet to find out) that it will now take me to the correct place because the street I have added takes you directly to the postcode. I'll give it a try next time I'm in that area.

BTW I have added all the house numbers in my own street ;-)

Thanks Moley. I just need to ensure I plan a little better in the future, and as I say, I may have fixed the problem because the road wasn't showing up on the map. I've now added it.
