Placement doesn't have to be on the road, i assume its the same as before, except you just want the nearest navigable point to be where you would drive to.

https://www.waze.com/editor/?zoom=8&lat ... 30.2795381

Taking this random example, whilst we can't check it, i think the closest point is the side road which doesn't really look like a road you would want to drive down (judging by GSV). So would want to be slightly closer to the main road ( I think)

I had a good example from google the other day where because the marker was too far away from the main road, it was actually navigating to a road round the back, which was a one way street so it took you past where you wanted to go, then round the back. Moving in GMM where it was almost immediately updated (within ten minutes) Waze was able to route correctly to the address.

Well I think thats where decisions need to be made. Thats certainly an option, and it's certainly, as you would say where you are more likely to park.

But then, I don't know of any sat nav that would take you to the relevant car park for a location, so whilst that is nice, looking from the other side, say I don't know where the place is, i get routed to a car park round the back, great, but where the hell is the shop.

This is why I think its still being discussed, no doubt the CM's are watching this thread and having many discussions (or arguments :D) and no doubt it will come up a lot at the meetup.

At the end of the day you will never please everyone.

I have doubts that 'parking lot landmarks' (as opposed to segments) have any special properties for supressing traffic jams or map problems, despite what we heard from Erez. I'll double-check that...

I'm at a loss with Searching for POIs within the client (I'm using the beta client currently, BTW), the whole concept of destination Categories has been removed, and searching for Places names as a destination, it's pretty clear that they are not being searched for, making this whole concept pretty useless.

That presumes the conversion process has done its job properly, and we know it hasn't been entirely successful in that regard. I also wonder if the introduction of stop points for places is causing problems with converted landmarks - although the stop point positions in WME seem reasonable for converted landmarks, I wonder if that's an artifact of how the data is processed before display in WME rather than a truly accurate representation of the data being used by the search routine...
Dave2084 wrote:But yes it would be nice if the map would update so that all the new point and area places I added for testing were on the map.
Indeed, and not just for testing places - with the big push to keep the number of URs under control, it'd be nice if we could validate the god knows how many fixes have been implemented for all of those too... Would also help prevent even more new URs being raised for the same problems in the meantime.

That's a bit too philosophical for the weekend :?

Shopping and Services could do with a childrens store (e.g. Mothercare) sub-category, and perhaps a phone shop one too given how many of the damn things there are over here now (although these can just about scrape by under the Electronics category, or perhaps even Toy Store...).

I'd also query the placement of some of the sub-categories within both the Outdoors and Natural Features categories - is a farm *really* a natural feature, and if rivers, lakes etc. are all in the latter, why put beaches in the former?

There was a 'lot' of camera issues and categories with the beta, so you may find (myself included) took a lot of pictures in our front room or a hotel room to identify and report bugs. I think I got them all, but do apologise if you find any of mine lurking around!
