What's with all these "Inactive User" edits?

What's with all these "Inactive User" edits?

I've been away for a while, but I'm back editing again.

And over the last few weeks, I've seen a bunch of edits where the last update was done by "Inactive User(n)".

Are these users that have been kicked from the editing system for inactivity? Or were they banned? Why isn't the username shown?

Even discovered an "Inactive User(6)" today.

Can someone please advise?

These are users whose accounts have actually been deleted, although not necessarily for anything suspicious. The user in question may have simply stopped editing and asked Waze to delete their account. I know of at least one case where the editor died and the family either used access to the email account to delete the profile or asked Waze to do it.

As far as I know, there is no automatic process HQ have ever run to delete users; and when we want to block users, that's generally what we do - block the account from editing. I don't think there's even a formal process for senior editors/champs to request an account deletion.
