Post by amitbena
Hi Guys,

It's official!!!

We have implemented road shields in the land of down under!
You can feel free to check them out in the application.

A great thanks to Caradellino and ps_au for their tremendous help in providing the information and testing the road shields.

Thanks,

Amit

I'm not getting any shield shapes in Sydney. All I'm getting is truncated road names (eg. A3) in little green boxes.

Oh, I see. I've just been seeing those same boxes for A, B & M all around Sydney. When I look out to Wollongong, I see some different symbols.

Thanks for the kind words, Amit, but let's not forget the biggest contributors:

Many thanks to all the guys eagerly coding all that shield in so many roads already.

Most of you won't know this, but Oz is the very first country to have road shields really automatically coming from a pattern within the streetname of a segment. So this is a big success for us all and shows that we have really a powerful and working community.

So get out there and spread the word that we get more users, we still have a lot to do and we have to defend our now leading role in Waze.

Just a sidenote: be advised, we need another two builds to correct a little glitch in the design of the shields of the numerical system (they all show as National currently), but it's already fixed too. With this I might add a big thanks to another important group in the shield project:

All the guys from Waze, especially our community manager Amit, but also the many other guys envolved, we wholeheartedly thank you that you made this possible.

Mates, it seems all National numbering is gone (exept National M and A), so no M, A, B, C, along with Rural Routes...

Email to the community manager(s) is out.

P.S.: to check on shields look for road shield ranch in the client...this is the original testbed, every segment there is to show a shield, all possible shields are there (the pics listed in the Wiki table of the patterns are all taken from there)

In a way yes, because that's the way it's supposed to work when shields are active

Does that have anything to do with the road name "bubbles" only having the route number when navigating?

It definitely should not work that way for most roads. Nobody knows what "State Route 30" is.

Besides, it only says "30" in the bubble, not even "SR30". Pretty bad.

I'm not seeing the road shields either, it's not just you.

Edit
I'm seeing some SR, NR, some TRs, and MR's, but no M, A , B, or C's in Vic. It's kind of random.
