Montana MDOT: State Highway Standardization

Post by Kinematic
It was brought to my attention by Wyoming editor ChrisK that Montana's Secondary Highways naming convention is now or has been labeled as "S-xx" and not the former "SR-xx" or "State Hwy-xx" as we are currently implementing. I also noticed that we are improperly labeling our Primary Highways as "State Hwy-xx" when according to Wiki MDOT they should be labeled "MT-xx" Obviously if we go the route of labeling them as "MT-xx" we lose the shield on our primaries and gain the TTS, but maintain the shields on our secondaries. At this point I would rather maintain shields over TTS and wait for the MT shield to come. All this being said it would still meet the FC and quick reference chart guidelines.

Census: So do we go through and revamp all of our highways to fit the current Wiki MDOT MDOT standard? Secondary Naming convention "State Hwy-x" to "S-x" and Primary to "MT-x"

I've been active in Montana again recently and I noticed the wiki was very recently updated to reflect MT-xx for Primary and State Hwy xx for secondary.

I don't have a TTS vs. map preference, but appreciate a standardized look, feel, and TTS when crossing from one state to the next. If ever traveling in another state it becomes particularly important to study that state's wiki before going back to address any concerns found there.

All this really comes down to personal preference of editors in Mt but seeing how I'm the only active one besides PhoneixofMT from time to time. I'm really just gathering opinions on what people thing about TTS vs Shields. I'll have to run changing State Hwy-xx to MT-xx by Alan.
It's difficult to "guess" what the average user wants out of Waze navigation. Would they prefer visual vs TTS.

Either one is good. I'm sure it's a user preference. I look at the map a lot more than listen to TTS, most of the times I only have "alerts only" on even though I usually navigate to wherever in going. The only time the full navigation sound is on is when I'm navigating to totally unknown destination. But even then I pay attention to the map more than sound.

Just my $.02

Personally, I would rather have the TTS over the state shields. I have never noticed or not noticed the state shields in the app or LM.

We should consider what is better for the daily user. Is it more important to have a small visual queue rather than audible queue? I hardly study the app while i'm driving to that degree of detail. I'm sure the same is true for most regular users.

PZ and I have already discussed that a designation of S-### will not interfere with Nebraska Spurs as the syntax can be distinguished (S-### vs. S-##X).
