Area Management information for the NWR

Post by ply8808
Wanted to take an opportunity to give everyone some general information and insight on Area Management Requests and expectations/duties of the role of Area Manager.

This information does not cover every aspect but will at least give you a general reference.

Please feel free to add comments or ask questions if something is missed or not clear.

*Here is the forum reference for Area Managers and application:
viewtopic.php?f=129&t=48322

*And the wazeopedia reference for Area Managers:
https://wazeopedia.waze.com/wiki/USA/Ar ... ea_Manager

*Please read and understand the prerequisites before submitting an application, these are items that will be considered on the decision from the ARC/RC.

*Be sure to have the example area clean and complete before submitting it on the application.
(Always helpful to have a second set of eyes look at it, your SMs will be happy to do a review)( Also note that all of your edits can be reviewed, not only the edits in the example area)

*Know who the RC is for the region you are submitting the AM Request.

*Note that AM areas are not the same as driven areas which expire after 90 days, an AM area will only be removed if deemed an appropriate action by the RC/ARC, or if there is no editing activity in a consecutive 90 day period. (The exception for removal due to inactivity would be an announced absence of a set time period to the RC/ARC.)

*First time applicants should submit for a permalink area, expansions can be submitted as coordinates.
(Make sure the coordinates are submitted correctly and in the right order, SMs can assist if needed)

*Requesting for expansions will include a review of your existing area(s), they should be clean and complete, and this includes all areas that the requester is managing.

*The Northwest Region has a 90 day "hold" period between AM request approvals, to include submitting multiple request at the same time for different regions. If this occurs, the RCs of each region will discuss and the editor will be contacted to make a decision on which area to proceed with, or the RCs will determine which request will go forward.

*The exceptions to the 90 day "hold" period are:
Mapraid areas
Special or assigned projects
RC granted areas
Completed areas (Contact the SMs for review and they will discuss with RC)
Mentoring areas
Denied AM requests do not count as an approved area, the 90 day rule does not apply.

*Remember that each application submitted is populated to a sheet that all RCs monitor, they look for the editors from their region and for requests that are within their region.

*The Northwest ARC/RC may/will consult with the NWR SMs on AM requests, both on the decision making and location of area requested.

*The duties of an AM are clearly stated in the forum and wazeopedia references, it is always beneficial to inform your ARC/RC of an extended period of editing inactivity so they are aware and can reassign the area when you return, should the area be lost. The reassignment will be handled on a case by case basis, once the editor is determined to be back up to speed with current editing practices, the ARC/RC will make the decision to reassign and inform the editor of the process.

Hope this information clarifies the process and expectations of the review process and duties for those who wish to apply for an AM area or expansion.

Thank you all for the volunteer work you commit to making the waze community a great team!!!!
