it might make more sense if a forum moderator could move this to the general Southwest Forum folder as it impacts multiple states

The military made a similar announcement in Anchorage, Alaska a couple of years ago. At the time, it was clarified that the greatest potential for impact was to GPS receivers aloft. Ground-based GPS receivers were not expected to suffer, at least not significantly.

If this is more of the same, as seems likely, we will hopefully see little if any impact on Waze or other GPS-based navigation apps.

"The testing centered at Naval Air Warfare Center Weapons Division based in China Lake, Calif., could affect aircraft at least 50 feet off the ground within hundreds of miles of the base to as high as 40,000 feet above sea level nearly 550 miles away. The affected area is the shape of an upside-down layer cake, with the largest layer 40,000 feet high spanning California and Nevada, and stretching across much of Oregon, Idaho, Utah and Arizona." -- USA Today
