Sounds good to me as well, I'm not tossing Utah into the mix yet, just saying that as you'll find my name on a LOT of the segments (or have been on a lot) in Nevada as well, it sounds good to me.

Actually I'm gonna post the Proposal on UT's forum as well. The shorter format is already in place on a lot of the US hwy's in the state. And I just like the cleaner shorter format (should be easier to code for shields as well) an not needing to worry about N S E or W designators either (which only make sense for sections drawn as separated travel lanes anyway).

So you may soon be adding Utah to that list of red letter rebel states in the Wiki

Yea you are right, I typed that after a quick glance at the wiki link, where I skimmed the explanatory text and mostly just focused on the examples given, which showed the cardinal directions. That's what I get for speed skimming.

Okay, lacking any negative response to the idea in the Utah forum, and finding where a couple editors have already started, Utah has joined the convention and I've edited Utah's entry on the Road naming by State wiki page.

So despite my earlier joke it looks like we will be following CA in this. But hey, even a broken clock is correct twice a day, so CA can get something right once in a great while.

Last that I have seen was that it is still under consideration, but the discussion was leaning towards the shorter version. I know that somebody is trying to get NV to adopt the same. I think the major stumbling block is the shields...

Actually I think in the thread discussing this topic for CA, no one had posted any resistance to the change. As for NV, it was recommended that someone send a PM to the few active NV editors to ask their input as well.

1. I updated the Wiki for the changes discussed for CA. I will also note that in the other thread.

2. I added that Nevada is also considering the short format.

3. I was having trouble logging into the Wiki from my office over the last week, but having no trouble from home.

Since I drive 1-2 weeks per year in Las Vegas I will toss my name into the hat as a local editor for the southern section and concur.

I have updated the Wiki to add Nevada to the shortened naming convention.
