U-turn editing?

Postby simoxp93 » Sat Jan 18, 2014 9:40 pm

Hi guys, I'm new here in Colorado and I'm starting to edit in my city...

I found this UR:

and I solved it in this way:

However, AlanOfTheBerg, told me that this is not the best solution. How can I solve this problem?

Would a bowtie intersection allow prohibition of U-turns while still allowing left turns from the side street?

two solution
1) bowtie
2) the cross section - set as 10 meters (currently 18), and unname it.

I can see why the bowtie intersection would work, but I can't figure out how an unnamed 10-meter cross-section would prohibit u-turns on split roads while allowing left turns from side streets. I searched the forums but didn't turn up anything.

Can you say why this works, or point me to where it's explained?

Some of us champs has seen that anything under 15 will work, but I had one example that it had to be under 10 and no name to stop the u-turn from. We tried under 15 and named, then no name, then kept reducing it. Finally when it was 9 we no longer got the u-turn instruction. It took about 10 weeks to finally get the u-turns stopped.

FYI - This is the segment we worked on and now does not throw u-turn

Wow!

Curious, why were you trying to avoid a bowtie in this situation? Would it route OK but look strange on the map? Or would it have not even routed properly?

The bowtie would have worked, but with that Mercer street heading to the south created a strange look on the map, so I suggested this before doing a bowtie and we had an editor that was willing to monitor and make the changes until it worked.

I believe < 10m was the original design and ROTW was always that way. NA initially worked at < 15m but at some point was made to meet design and now matches ROTW routing.
