Bayonne Bridge Construction and Road Closures

Post by iostat
Hello!

The Bayonne Bridge still has a ton of construction on it which the Waze map is not entirely aware of.
A few weeks ago, I had to go to Jersey City from Brooklyn, and Waze suggested taking the Bayonne Bridge. After following a bunch of road signs for a detour I realized that the section of road that both Waze and the detour wanted me to take was closed and ended up taking the Goethals, but I could've saved time and money on tolls for the Verrazano and NJ Turnpike if I had just went into Manhattan and taken the Holland Tunnel from the start.

There was a thread about this about a year ago: viewtopic.php?f=569&t=75569

Closures for the bridge can be found here: http://www.panynj.gov/alerts-advisories ... l?tabnum=4 but they don't really show advisories too far into the future. Is it possible to lower the restrictions on the bridge so that closures can be more frequently updated?

That's certainly reasonable. Hopefully someone sees this thread and can commit to it!

I fixed up the scheduling of Bayonne Brg closures recently for what information was available. But in the end, the bridge alerts really need to be watched weekly and acted upon as necessary. A lot of the work being done requires closing the bridge to all traffic for a period of time, and both states require such closures to be kept to off-peak hours.

I don't think we'd be comfortable lowering it for long periods of time, especially to a very open level like 1, 2, or even 3. If you can get a NJ or NY state manager, rank 4 or 5 involved, who can commit to keeping it updated, that would probably be for the best. I am a state manager for both, but I can't commit to keeping it up to date due to other commitments and priorities.

Check out https://wiki.waze.com/wiki/New_York#Area_Managers and https://wiki.waze.com/wiki/New_Jersey#Area_Managers

There are about a dozen SMs, CMs, and an RC listed as active. There are a few other active senior ranking editors who hang out but have not listed themselves. But you can start with the dozen there.
