They are not beneficial (especially with the !tiles command available from the bot), and should be completely removed.

Status updates in NOR Discord

Post by PesachZ
Hi everyone,
as you are all hopefully aware by now we have switched our main real-time communication platform for the region over to use the Discord platform. This has afforded the opportunity to incorporate new, and exciting integrations with other services to make for a more efficient experience. Among the many services we have successfully integrated are status updates from Waze regarding new tile builds and build delays, as well as many closure feed sources, and bots.

It has been brought to my attention that some editors are distracted by the Waze tile build update posts in the #general channel of the NOR server, while others enjoy its presence there.
-Some find that being members of several different servers, that seeing the same update information posted in the #general channel on multiple servers is annoying. It triggers the unread icon on the channel/server in their sidebar making it appear as there might be message waiting only to find that it was just a repost of the same update. This experience is leading o feel inclined to mute the #general channels which we'd like to avoid as a group. They have therefore suggested a new dedicated #status channel to be the home of such updates instead.
-Others find the updates useful, and are not bothered by seeing them in multiple servers. They feel the convenience of knowing the current status at the start of their editing day is beneficial, and the ease of access having it in the #general channel makes it more readily noticed by newer editors who may otherwise not think to look for it, or be aware of its ramifications.

I am therefore creating a 3 day poll to determine where the majority opinion lies.
This poll only affects the NorthEast Region (NOR) server on Discord.
If you are a member of the NOR server please cast your vote above. Feel free to also discuss below.
As stated the poll will run for 3 days, and you have the ability to change you vote if you choose to based on discussion below until it ends.

I’m in favor of the #Status channel and was wondering can we disable the the auto reply for !tiles on the NOR server?

Personally I have no issues with any of the options above which is why I voted to leave it to everyone else, however I do like Jay’s suggestion. This allows only those who care to see them get notified and the ability for those editors who edit both NA and ROW to get updates privately. This would eliminate the need for a #status channel and eliminate the need for anyone not wanting them to have to mute the channel.

I believe those who have voted to remove Completely would also have there vote for having it in it's own channel.

I voted for it to be in it's own channel, but feel that there is already so many other ways to get this info, having it automatically posted everyday amounts to unnecessary noise.

The response to !tiles is not an auto-reply it is a built in command. These are not configurable by server. Also I think the solution here is education not to spam everyone, but there are times when it may prove useful.

The overwhelming majority supports a #status channel instead, so I will make the necessary adjustments shortly. Thank you to everyone who participated in the discussion and vote.

I also like the idea of posting it in #status but another potential solution could be to send it to the bot as a DM to each individual.
