Where are all the Level 4 editors?

Post by IamtheLexx
Are there a lot of Level 4 editors or are they scarce?

I am in the Niagara Region area and it does need some updates for places that require Level 4, why they were locked to 4 in the first place, I don't know.

Perhaps it's time for two tier editors. Where you earn a Level 3 the hard way, and then you get a second tier editing level (eg: 4B) that would let you edit any level 4 stuff within 75km radius of your home address.

We are around.

There are two rank 5+ (hmarian and manoeuvre) based in the GTA, and invented (4) is also in Ontario.

First off, the Places in that area were locked to rank 4, because a rank-3 IGN editor had started making some very poor changes.

Second, we're not likely to start giving out rank 4 more readily. You must have a significant amount of experience to get there (it usually comes with "Province Manager" status), and we (the Canadian Champs) need to have confidence in your editing abilities. I reviewed a bunch of your proposed edits in the Niagara region -- about 2/3rd were correct, and 1/3 were rejected. Furthermore, there were places created that were outside the scope of the guidelines (eg. Parking Lot areas).

Of special note was the proposed deletion of the Lincoln Motor Inn -- something that was created because of user request just last summer.

You're free to encourage us (e.g. via PM like you did with me today) to come take a look if it's looking neglected... but it is VERY rare that we'd upgrade someone to Rank 4 before they've reached 100k edits. In fact, the only area that it might be a consideration at this point is Vancouver -- the highest ranking local editor is a Rank 3, and that's a big city to have that sort of gap in.

I have no idea, but I did find it on streetview, so it couldn't have been TOO long ago that it was demolished.

You can get to rank four by putting in four times the cumulative amount of editing you did to get to rank 3.

If you're frustrated by your editing area, you can apply for an AM area nearby... Or just take a day trip with Waze running.

Believe me, we've all been there. And yes, the more mature areas are harder to find edits in (Niagara Falls is a good example of this, as I visited there last year and spent some time cleaning it up).

As for the parking lots, I'll take a look at that documentation, but I don't believe the guidance is to create area places for every parking lot that might be used by the public... Especially when we are talking about a tourist area where if it isn't a hotel, it's a parking lot charging as much for a parking space as the hotels do for a room for the night...

They can all be POINT places... but they don't need to be AREA places.

And apparently that moving target that was well-discussed on the forums either moved, or hasn't made it into the wiki yet.

Consider this the policy: don't add parking lot places. I've had some success with point-places for them on the University of Alberta campus. That said, apparently others are struggling...

It's a long-developed issue, and it's a good sign of a new editor when they start adding lots of parking lot places. :)

The rules for parking lot in the wiki are very clear - https://wiki.waze.com/wiki/Places/Parking_lot.
Cost of parking isn't a criteria for parking.

Not sure why anyone would request a non existent place be added. It used to exist, I used to work there, save for the restaurant, the entire other building were razed to the ground to make a parking lot. Now it's called the Jewish Welcome Center https://goo.gl/maps/bfpNj

Not sure how I'm supposed to reach 100k edits when my area of travel is not that large, but my local knowledge ( 40+ years living here) exceeds most level 4+ who just pass through the area.

I did read this before making the parking lots, I hope the parking lots I created were for general public use, and with the influx of high number of tourists to this area, letting them know alternative places to park is to me a good idea. https://wiki.waze.com/wiki/Places/Parking_lot

I agree that not all parking lots should be put on the map, but the larger parking lots that can handle over 100 cars should be, and most parking is reasonable (this isn't Toronto :D ), most are $5 to $10 per set time period, and some are cheaper.

I used to work at the Embassy Suites and they charged $20 a day for valet/parking service, there was no self parking, even the Casino's top parking rate is $15, which you can get for free if you gamble at least $20 with a PAC card.

As of this writing, the primary application of the Parking-Lot Place is as an Area. Future additional applications of the Parking Lot as a Point are under consideration (see The Parking-Lot Point Place).
As of this writing the client display of Parking-Lot Area Places versus Point Places remains unclear. In the future, the Parking-Lot Point Place may be useful for identifying parking in certain situations that would not be appropriate for the Area Place, for example campus, park, stadium, or theme-park parking zones, privately operated long-term public parking, or parking located within a multi-use structure.

Until more clarity emerges, new Parking-Lot Point Places should not be created. Existing named parking that does not comply with Parking-Lot Area Place guidelines may be converted, provisionally, to Point Places. Unnamed parking that does not comply with Parking-Lot Area Place guidelines should not be marked with the Parking-Lot category at all.
I just followed what the wiki said as best that I could.
