Canadian Speed Limit MapRaid!

Post by
WonderLerm's Speed Limits Process: viewtopic.php?f=276&t=166867
The following is instructions for communities interested in contributing to the Speed Limits feature.

The roll-out of speed limits is planned in three phases, as explained below:
Phase 1 - initial speed limit data (by community)
Using the Editor, add speed limits data on minimum 10 000 segments on a localized area (e.g. city), with all types of roads, and most importantly all types of speeds that exist in the country
Freeways : min 1000
Major Highways : min 1000
Minor Highways : min 1000
Primary Streets : min 2000
Streets: min 5000

Phase 2 - prediction algorithm (by Waze)
Wait for the Waze Team to generate Speed Limit predictions for all the country / metro
takes a few business days

Phase 3 - speed limit verification (by community)
Verify the inserted speed limits by the Waze algorithm (use the ‘Verify’ checkbox inside the Editor). Focus on high speed roads (Freeways, Major Highways, Minor Highways).

The feature is then enabled inside the app once enough segments have been verified for a smooth user experience
Please follow the updated guidelines set out in the US Wiki: https://wiki.waze.com/wiki/Speed_limits/USA

We would like as a community to solely focus on updating speed limits over the next 2 weeks in an effort to verify as many segments as possible.

In Canada, whether it's Speed Limits, HOV, Dangerous Turns, TTS, Road Shields; we want to take advantage of all the relevant waze features available to us. Some are more easier to deploy than others. Speed Limits is something that we can make available to drivers in Canada RIGHT NOW, in a very short period of time.

We have discussed among the champs, and will be open to providing temporary AM access to editors. We are also open to providing temporary rank upgrades for approximately 2 weeks.

During this period, editors that receive the special rank upgrade should focus solely on speed limits. Please do not take advantage of the temporary rank upgrade to perform other edits: FC changes, dividing roads, place updates, turn restrictions, wayfinders, road/city naming, geometry node simplification, etc.

Temporary rank upgrades will be at the discretion of the champs, so even if it's not approved; please do not be discouraged. You will be guaranteed AM access.

Lets work together in order to get Speed Limits available in Canada.

MapRaid! is concluded!

Hi,
Just to be sure I understand, if I ask for a rank 5 (I'm 3), I hope I can modify a freeway geometry by cuting a freeway segment to create a new junction for example !
Is that correct ?
Thanks

Proposal: is there any chance that we can have access to the statistics results during this twoo weeks to be aware of the progress of our work and target segments that should benefit to the achievement of our goals ?

Manoeuvre and hmarian thank you for your answers. NP about statistics, it was just an idea (like 1000 others) that pass through my head.

We will provide up to 1 rank temporary promotion. so if you are R3 and approved for temporary promotion you will be getting R4.
I will let @manoeuvre answer the question about the ability to generate statistics during the two weeks, although I'm not sure what benefit to the community. We have tons of segment to add SL info and the more the merrier.

As explained by @manoeuvre the rank increase is done solely for the SL MapRaid and if an upgrade was granted to someone he/she should not use the upgrade to edit element he/she wouldn't be able to perform prior to the temporary upgrade.
If you see something that falls under this category you should post this to the Update/Unlock Request forum and let someone with appropriate permission fix that.

Oh I just grabbed the list straight from Wikipedia.

Another comment: We should not be blowing up JBs for adding SL right?

(Or perhaps, we can blow up JBs only this time, and then all new JBs must have SL filled before added.)
JB are not functioning at the moment (for the last 4-5 weeks).
I'm happy if during the process of adding SL we remove the JB involved, add the speed limit then rebuild the JB with the same connections before they were removed.
