New water-tiles deployed in the NA server!

Post by
Hi there!

We've finally finished updating and uploading the new water-tiles to the North-American server.
This will greatly improve how everything looks!

Note: you only get the latest client tiles when navigating, so if you zoom out / scroll and see old tiles, you can refresh it like this in the client:
Settings -> Advanced -> Data transfer -> Refresh map of my area

Are there any new updates on the water tiles for Vancouver? Like a previous poster said, it doesn't look very nice when we're trying to introduce new people to Waze and it appears we're all drowning.

I have a number of other areas that are showing as under water incorrectly. Is there a preferred/proper procedure to report these issues for consideration with future water-tile updates?

That's good... because this:

Is a bit of a concern. I promise: UBC is not underwater! :)

That must be in the Champs forum... I'm not authorised to see it. :(

We've got some big problems here.

User reports:
"Ocean blue is coming into land and roads on the map"
https://www.waze.com/editor/?zoom=5&lat ... TTFTTTTFTT

"Says we are in water"
https://www.waze.com/editor/?zoom=3&lat ... TTFTTTTFTT

"Stanley Park has glitch in map - shows water where there is land."
https://www.waze.com/editor/?zoom=4&lat ... TTFTTTTFTT

"Mom coloring wrong. It is showing blue which signifies water. Should be regular land color. This is downtown Vancouver."
https://www.waze.com/editor/?zoom=5&lat ... TTFTTTTFTT

"i Stanly are on a road and the map is showing that I'm in water. This needs to be corrected. You may have to zoom in to see the blue area."
https://www.waze.com/editor/?zoom=3&lat ... TTFTTTTFTT

These are only from the last few days.

Yonatan: we need to either roll back to the previous water tiles, or get someone in there to update the Vancouver, BC area... this is ridiculous!

There was a change in Waze staffing -- Yonatan (jonypony) is no longer the community manager, but I've followed this up with Amit, and they're looking into it.

Interestingly, even worse than downtown Vancouver is Indian Arm:

If there's a problem with fixing it on the servers, does anyone know a fix that would display it as dry land at least locally on my phone.
Not that I want to complain, but downtown is the area where you really want to use waze with traffic and all, but the way it is right now, it's almost unusable.
Hi Tim,

Unfortunately, this is up to Waze staff to fix on the server.

That said, this shouldn't affect routing or use -- it will just appear that the streets are paved on water, not land. If you're finding it to not be true, please feel free to post a screenshot of how it's not working... I suspect that will help get it resolved more quickly.

Thanks,

Looking at the livemap, it looks like most of this is being fixed -- at least around Vancouver.

It might take a couple more tile updates to get all zoom levels repaired, though the client tiles are probably working now.

Parts of Quebec are also underwater, though local editors can't agree on whether it is a water layer issue or a messed up Place mark that found its way in...
