I have a large request pertaining to Clifton Rd between the town of Clifton and demarcation for Fairfax Station at the intersection of Wolf Run Shoals and Clifton Rd. This section of road should be "no city" but has been all marked as Union Mill. This is erroneous and can cause navigation/search issues.

The segment IDs are:

Sure. This affects the integrated Waze in my Volvo but it also happens with my phone app. When asking (via voice command) to navigate to a location along that road the search will sometimes fail unless you say the address AND "Union Mill". Searching for XXXXX Clifton Road Union Mill works but just XXXX Clifton Road doesn't always. This usually results in a lot of yelling at the phone or car and manually typing in the address or just reverting to Google Maps. We've had friends complain of the issue when they're coming to visit which is what lead me down the rabbit hole of figuring out the issue.

Plus it's just inaccurate. Union Mill is not the name of the area. The area north of the town of Clifton is Union Mill. That stretch of road is unincorporated county.

I'd have fixed it myself but I don't have the ultimate cosmic powers that allow me to do so.

Yeah, I removed the segment, but I'm better at WME than GHO.

Several road segments need to be deleted.

Where the road and parking lots is shown is now a quickly shrinking dirt hill. The building (former Teqcorner office building) has been demolished and entire area is being grade lowered for new construction.

New roads and alleyways are under construction at the building shown to the east (The Kingston) but those will not be open for several more months.

The county site has the new Birdwood Avenue showing to the east of the Kingston. It is almost complete based on drive-bys but I've been holding off on adding it until the road is open rather than putting an under construction road on the map.

Once it goes to the app, we can take off and add the Real Time Closure so can open in an instant vice waiting for tile updates.

I saw that on the GIS but no GPS traces so wasn't sure exactly how to draw. But if you have been BOTG go ahead.
I've added in Birdwood and put a restriction on it. The road is a split with a water feature in the middle. I've drawn it as a loop for now, but once more roads are in place it may work better as two different one-way segments. There is also a road going in behind the building which will come out to the Chainbridge Road intersection, but as it is not on the county site and will be a private road I'll hold off on that one until it is closer to opening. If the design from the Final Development Plan (attached) holds that road will be named "Center Alley".

There are several more roads going in through that area in the next year (Dartford Drive, Station Street, and the Colshire Meadow Drive extension) but at this point there is nothing but lot excavations in the places they will be located. Nothing worth showing yet.

subs5 wrote:Great,
I connected the southbound leg to Anderson Rd. Can you make a turn from wb Anderson into the sb Birdwood Ave? Current aerial view doesn't show it with the median but that might have changed since the county GIS shows a connection.

I also noticed that you restricted the left from nb Birdwood Ave to wb Anderson. I enabled it based on the County GIS. We can restrict that turn if it is not alllowed.

I know you did a one way segment for the loop, leaving that as is for now. Normally we would have just one two way segment in this circumastance unless the median is wide enough that the GPS traces are separate at the 100m/500ft zoom level. Here is the guidance.
After this goes live in the map, we can pull the TBSR and put in a RTC so it can be opened near instantaneously. WIll be interesting to see the GPS traces but good enough for now since even as Boots on the Ground you are still approximating the location. So this all works for now. Thanks.
Look at the FDP image from my previous post. You can only turn onto Birdwood from eastbound Anderson Rd and when exiting Birdwood you can only turn right back onto eastbound Anderson Rd. There is a median on Anderson Rd that prevents access to and from Birdwood when going west. The FDP drawing shows turn arrows and angled approach/exit to support this.

According to the FDP, the median is 50' wide, which I would consider significant.

I wish the map editor had a way to underlay a user provided image when working. That would allow me to put the FDP drawing or county tax site map under the existing elements and see exactly where the road is supposed to go.

Birdwood Avenue is open now. Drove past it a couple of days ago.

Unfortunately, as it is locked to level 2 I can't remove the restrictions on it. I've taken the restrictions off of the service road behind the building and moved the entrance ramp to where it can be seen on the latest Google aerial photo.

Of note, there is a gravel road on the west side of the building but it looks to be there more for emergency access and not for general traffic. This is most likely temporary until the Colshire Meadow Drive extension comes through. It looks like efforts are underway to lay that road out now as the demolition of the hill to the Northwest of the Kingston is about complete and there appears to be utilities going in along the path where Colshire Meadow Drive will be.

At some point the closed segment next to the Kingston will need to be realigned but I don't expect to see that road ready to open for six months to a year at best.

Out of curiosity, why the level 2 lock on Birdwood when most of the streets in that area are level 1?

From what I could tell while stopped at the light on Dolley Madison, the connection from Capital One Tower Rd to Capital One Drive is now open. The road had a clear path all the way through and the traffic light at the intersection was flashing red rather than covered.
