New to Waze but I'm a fireman in Little Rock and also live in a small city. Would love to help out with map editing. Seems a little confusing but I'm sure I can get the hang of it. Thanks!
Hi! I'm new to Waze, but as a logistics engineer, I think I can be a big help to the editing team. After admittedly jumping in without reading the instructions yesterday, I've read through the posts you recommended and much better understand the needs and general operations of the editing community. I installed the WME toolbox and validator, and plan on starting out starting on the routes I know and travel each day, addressing the validation errors that I can fix. Any other advice you can give would be greatly appreciated!
Nice to hear from you Greg. It can be a little daunting at the very start only ... the Waze Wiki really can help get started. And with the basics down, it's just a case of building on that knowledge, as you take on newer, different map work.
Signing up and getting on the forum is one of the best starts. Use of the private messaging here in the forum (PM), allows your to ask questions, get answers, help in a quick way.
Those sections are really a great start. And you sure don't have to be an expert at the beginngin. Just knowing where to look for answers, or ask for help is key.
Welcome Bob. As you edit areas, and questions arise, please send a PM and I'll give my usual "long version" of an answer, LOL.
As time allows, I've always felt going through and reading the mail in the forum, under the WME area helps new editors get a feel of things, and note that most others are on the same page as you. I got answers there, back when I started, without even knowing I had a question.
For sure, if you see things that are edited a certain way on the map, and don't understand the reasoning, send a PM. Lots of gray in some areas of editing, and hopefully I, or other editors, can clear it up.
As you gain experience and wider editing areas, adding some of the many scripts can really make the task easier, and thus more fun. Some scripts help a little. Some others are almost like a third hand, LOL.
BTW, Validator is still a little hobbled (broken), from a recent WME change. Hopefully it will be back to full speed soon with an update. There is a thread in the Forum on it, so that will be the place where you will find out first, on changes.
