Directions at Unnamed Roads

Postby CBenson » Wed Dec 07, 2011 3:25 am

I'm responding to the update request for this ramp. The request states:
while on the ramp I was told to stay left at Dorsey Run Road and then turn left on Dorsey Run Road. I figure the Ramp has its own name or would be called Ramp or would just be an unnamed Road. the guidance should have been stay left and then turn left at Dorsey Run Road.

It seems to me that the current instruction set overuses "at." There are a couple of circumstances where "at" makes the instruction confusing. The first is where the road name starts with "to," such as an entrance ramp. In that circumstance you are not exiting "to the left at I-97" rather you really are exiting "to the right to I-97." The "to" is the name for a purpose, to ignore it seems to be error to me. The second is where the segment is unnamed and the instruction picks up the name of the next named segment for the turn prompt. In this case you are by definition not "at" the road named but rather are being directed "to" it.

Well the ign team was the last to tend to the slip road. I suspect if it is deleted, they will be back to add it back.

And then you can delete it once again!

I use an exit like that that will repeat the instruction 6 times while driving down the ramp. The bug that makes Waze ignore the section of the ramp named "Exit #..." makes it worse. In my case, the screen will display the next step as "State Road ###" for 80 miles because it's ignoring the segment name with the Exit number and Town name.

The answer is probably to get rid of the slip road to the right and eliminate the junction, which will eliminate two of the redundant vocal instructions.

In some other thread talking about unnamed parking lot roads I made the comment that the instruction should perhaps say "towards" instead of "at" or "to". So I am full agreement that something must be done because the current situation is far from ideal.
