This intersection is even more complicated, but the type of layout does resolve most if not all of these issues. Take a REALLYCLOSE look at the junctions to see the detail.

That intersection is complicated, but some of the changes you've made seem to go against the #1 guideline for mapping. I see no purpose to this segment for example. It's just to give a left turn instruction?

Another Odd Route

I know this intersection could be simplified. But why does waze route like this?

This seems really odd to me. If I open the permalink to the live map that I gave above and then click the permalink again I get a new tab with the route. If I do this repeatedly I get bunch of tabs open with route highlighted. I currently have seven tabs open with the route. In three tabs the route is the correct left turn. In the other four the route is a right turn and then U-turn. The UR shows that the right and U is also used at least some of the time by the routing server when providing routes to the clients. But if waze can route through the left turn, why would it ever make the right and the U-turn? And why would I get different results when asking for the same route seconds apart?

I don't see how. Its not something that anyone is going to accept as good routing.

Nor am I this morning. Odd.

If that's the case why would the live map give me a good route some of the time?

Live map is showing the left turn again for me now.

I'm seeing a decent number of these odd short deviations in the purple lines for UR requests. This result makes me think I shouldn't be ascribing them to "goodie munching." Although they do seem to be a routing problem, not a map problem, so I'm likely to close them as "not a problem." But I don't think simply getting rid of the "goodie munching" option is going to solve these problems.

Its back to the right and U now after the Live Map is showing the 2/12/12 update date.

I don't understand how this intersection would solve my routing problem. Both routes in my example (simply making the left turn or making a right turn / U-turn) are valid permitted routes. Its just that the right/U-turn makes no sense from a practical routing perspective. What waze is essentially doing is giving this route. I don't see that your intersection would prevent this.

Yes. I would guess that redoing the intersection will help. I'll likely eliminate the split in Pasadena Rd. But I've seen a bunch of update requests like this. I'm really hoping that it not necessary to delete and rebuild segments each time I see a routing error like this in a UR.
