Incorrect routing times

Postby mtylerb » Fri Jan 08, 2016 9:33 pm

https://www.waze.com/livemap?zoom=17&la ... t_text=Now

The link above is the livemap route from beginning to end. It doesn't offer up the option to go straight up Range Road 31 to Township Rd 492, instead it routes you down Hwy 39. From personal experience, the difference in time from going all the way via Hwy 39 and taking RR 31 to Twp 492 is approximately 2 minutes. I take the back roads when I have a loose load that I don't want to interfere with Hwy traffic is something falls off and I need to retrieve it.

The Route Speed add on for WME is showing RR 31 from Hwy 39 to Twp 492 having an average speed of 34 kph. From RR 31 to RR 25 along Twp 492 is showing an average speed of 19 kph. Neither of these are even remotely close. The average speed (having driven it numerous times) should be upwards of 80 kph. The speed limit is 80 along that road (as is set), and I've driven it a number of times with a speed in that area. There's no reason for it to be at 19 kph.

The rest of the route is no better, but those two are the worst. How do I go about fixing issues like this?

Someone moved this to the Unlock forum, though I'm not sure why. It was originally posted in the Navigation and Routing forum.

Is there any help? Or can someone move this back to where I originally posted it? I don't think duplicate posting is the answer.

mtylerb,

I suspect there's not a lot of traffic data for those roads as there are no GPS points in WME on the back roads except a few on one part of RR 25. The obvious suggestion would be to keep driving the road to update the times.

I'd suggest reading this thread that had a similar problem.

https://www.waze.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=108512

Sometimes the problem can't be fixed unless you recreate the segments. This is generally frowned upon since you lose historical data. We recently found that Waze only keeps 3 weeks of data though so the impact is not as great as previously thought.

BTW, this thread belongs in the Alberta or Canada forum. :-)

I wholeheartedly agree it shouldn't be in this forum. That's why I posted it in the navigation issues forum under the app section. Someone moved it here with no explanation.

I will go through the post you mentioned. Thanks, Tyler

When I do a route check on this I find the same thing you did. Keep in mind, Waze routes based on time, traffic and road type. Based on what I see, the route using the main road seems slightly shorter in time based on the waze traffic data. As was suggested, the fact that there is a very small data set waze is likely making assumptions (ie the speed limit on the main road is higher than the side roads).

I would not consider this a bug. The only way for waze to change it's mind on this is to keep driving each route until waze gets enough data to determine the main road is not the fastest route.

It's possible that waze is excluding the back road due to the distance. I don't remember the thresholds but lesser classes of roads are incrementally excluded the further you are away from the source or destination.

You are correct but this generally applies to long routes. A short route like this should probably include most, if not all, roads.

Even though this is in the wrong forum, is there anything that actually needs to be done here, or can this be closed?
