Here's a rather short off/on route that was reported by one of our local area managers.

Here's another one that exits the freeway to ramp road type, then mH, then ramps again, just to get back onto freeway.

The reporter gave me a screenshot which pretty much confirms the route.

First I learned how to draw lines on a map. Now I must learn the art of Feng-ShWaze.

I checked the Washington issue from Dude463 and all the criteria that I can see should have triggered BDP unless something at some time was wrong on the freeway when the original route was plotted. Then for some reason, any of the recalculations didn't account for the freeway getting cleared. But apparently staying on the freeway (not taking the exit route) recalculated and was 6 minutes faster.

If this is a rare occurance (not happened before here to this driver who travels this route a lot) I would assume it is from a heavy backup that was on the freeway before he arrived and the recalc did not reconsider BDP for this route.

I added the following note on the map to collect more data:
kentsmith9 on the map wrote:Strange. As far as I can see, all the criteria are set for Waze to prevent this ramp-to-ramp alternate route unless there was a huge shutdown on the freeway (which appeared not to be the case).

I have added two alternate road names to the two bracketed segments on the freeway as a test. Currently those two bracketed segments (where the ramps start and end on the freeway) have alternate city name which is not supposed to be considered. However, I'm wondering if something broke and it is looking at the city name change and getting a false road name change. As of the next map update from 5/14 am, this should not trigger if that was the problem. If it triggers again, we need to investigate further.
