It's a known issue with no known current solution. I do not know/have not heard where this lies on Waze's priority list.

Navigating through tunnels - not working

Postby crazysteps » Sat Nov 17, 2012 8:02 pm

Norway is brimfilled with tunnels. We have tunnels through mountains, under fjords and under our cities. We don't have much else than tunnels, including the world's longest road tunnell measuring 15.3 miles.

As you can figure, driving with Waze isn't perfect. Most other GPS navigators continue navigating through tunnels, guessing where you currently are based on your speed going into the tunnel and/or the speed limit through it. Waze just stops. Imagine this in the Laerdal tunnell, 15 miles/25 kilometers long. Irritating.

Even worse under Oslo, with entries and exits throughout. The navigation here simply doesn't work.

Anyone else with similar problems? Can it be solved?

Boston has a fair number of tunnels too. I have suggested before that, when GPS becomes unavailable, the client should switch to a manual mode that displays the upcoming turn. When you reach it, you press a "next" arrow to display the next turn instruction. This could also provide a semblance of speed data on a per-segment basis.
