why no left turn at intersection

Postby bz2012 » Sun Mar 24, 2013 1:04 pm

A user asked:
Problem: why not turn left at light from bluebonnet onto airline
Reported on: March 21

All turns are allowed (except the U turn).

Road types look OK.
Live map shows the same crazy routing that the driver was getting.

I think the intersection had been working.

have recent changes in routing algorithms broken the intersections?
What is the 'best way' to fix it?
I am tempted to 'add a left turn lane', perhaps as simple as this,

perhaps starting earlier, where the 'left turn only' pavement markings begin, even though the 'best practice guidelines' frown upon such things.

If I KNEW it was a routing algorithm problem and would soon be fixed, I would just leave it as is and mark it solved.

Screwy routing

Postby CTGreybeard » Sat Aug 17, 2013 2:54 pm

I'm looking at a UR here that doesn't make any sense at all. Can I ask that someone take a look at the intersection and tell me what's wrong? It looks OK to me.

Routing is wrong

Going west on Stetson Hills to south on Austin Bluffs. SHoukd be a simple left but...
Always seems to route me (and others), north on Austin Bluffs then u-turn at Templeton Gap to go south. Get a report at least once a week (both auto report and user report).
I have pulled the intersection apart and redid it. Same thing happens.
It has routed correctly a few times into east but ends up changing a week later.

Route off then onto same highway

Postby CTGreybeard » Sun Aug 18, 2013 6:35 pm

I've seen many UR's here where the driver is told to turn off the highway, around the roundabout and back onto the same highway.

But if you look at the green trace in this shot:

it appears that it thinks he is on the wrong lane, driving South in the Northbound lane. But that right turn that he would have to take is restricted properly.

About half the UR's I am seeing all over Central Florida, Orlando down to Fort Lauderdale, are regarding this issue. In some cases, the users are starting to get pretty frustrated over it. The only advice I know to give them is to change their preferences to shortest instead of fastest routing in the app, but doesn't that really violate the intent of Waze? I mean Waze is supposed to be a commuter app primarily that helps you avoid traffic issues.

At some point we need something more to tell the frustrated users or they'll just quit using the app for this behavior.

Here's another straight then U then right instead of left turn.

Just as a matter of forum etiquette, it's best to avoid double- or triple-posting at the end of a forum thread. There are cases where it might be desirable, such as in a thread a couple days old when you have new information that needs the attention of the thread's subscribers. In this case, we're just compiling a list of examples, so if you have the last post in the thread it's better to edit that post to add more examples.
