Here is another example of a user that thinks this is bad routing:

I quite agree that it is bad routing!
I notice that the segment WAZE avoids is a 'Minor Highway'.
WAZE may be favoring the U turn because it is 'Major'?

Livemap gives the same route.
Here is a more interesting routing. WAZE avoids the nearby permitted U-turn and favors the further distant one.

Yes, I agree that in you example waze is avoiding the minor highway. But if you are turning onto Baltimore Annapolis Blvd. you have to make the major/minor transition somewhere so I don't see why that would favor the straight/U.

Perhaps WAZE haz gone CRAZy.
It seems to be WRONGLY routing people. I suspect that many don't bother to report, they just go to a different GPS system.

By the way, the original topic of this discussion was 'fixed' by making that U-turn a 'parking lot road'.
It now routes correctly

via a left turn rather than the right, left, left. :)

That one IS strange. Livemap correctly navigates through the intersection NOW and color highlighter indicates no recent changes in that area.

Perhaps WAZE has been working on the routing problems!

Observation and question from a noob....

[Assuming for this discussion that Bluebonnet/Coursey run north and south and that Airline runs east and west]

With the restriction on the U turn in place, it doesn't seem that Waze knows that you can proceed north on Bluebonnet and through the intersection to turn left onto Airline. If you are proceeding north on Bluebonnet, the only turn that is permitted at the intersection is a right onto Airline. There is no way to proceed up to the intersection with Airline. Therefore, Waze will take you east on Airline until it finds a junction to make a U turn so that you can proceed west on Airline to take you back to your destination.

So, why not simply change the arrow that restricts the U turn to green and allow drivers to proceed north on Bluebonnet? Or change the intersection to a bowtie and restrict the U turn going south on Coursey at the appropriate juncture?

I think this intersection is a work of art. I wonder if something like this would work better for the Bluebonnet/Airline intersection. https://www.waze.com/editor/?lon=-118.5 ... TTTFTTTTFT

The turn to go north on Bluebonnet is and was permitted. That's why waze gave the "correct" route if you had the navigation type set to shortest.

Bowties do not solve this problem as shown in this thread:

Thank you. The map in the link you provided has different turns than the image in the OP. The map you provided makes sense.

Thanks very much for the link to the info re bowties.

I believe the OP is showing the intersection with shift-Z toggled on. Thus its showing the U-turn restriction for Coursey Blvd.
