There should probably be something in the routing server to prevent this kind of behavior. I don't know what kind of logic it would have to use to limit it to situations where the left turn is actually legal, though. We can't have the routing server refusing to use any Michigan-style left.

Instead of directing the driver to the 1960 service rd to turn left on to I-45 it directs them under I-45 and uturn them back to I-45. It looks like the issue is at the uturn itself but I am not sure. Let me know what you all think. I cannot edit it due it being lock at rank 5.

  • That U turn should not be allowed. I am disallowing it.
  • Those turn lanes:
    • probably aren't necessary;
    • aren't set properly with respect to type (At-Grade Connectors); and
    • aren't set properly with respect to turn restrictions. Although the allowed right turn in spite of the turn lane from Cypress Creek to North Fwy would indicate that the turn lane is not the problem.
  • It could be that the type of the "Cypress Creek Pkwy" segments is part of the problem. Waze doesn't like using anything lower than Minor Highway in longer routes. It's possible that the routing server is attempting to spend as little time as possible on Primary Streets by sticking to the Minor Highway as much as possible.

Of course, it's always possible that it's simply a question of averages, and that disabling the U turn will solve it.

At the risk of dog-piling on this problem, I have seen several reports that fit this model, and in fact, I have had Waze try to give me some strange routing around a particular intersection several times. Have we heard back from the Wave developers regarding a resolution? If this goes on too long, Wavers could get disenchanted and opt for another alternative to Waze.

It's also seem to be happening in Malaysia.

What is the issue with roundabouts that have non-consecutive segment IDs and "may lead to incorrect routing". You have one here ... but I don't know what the significance could be.
... and the "v" is for Volvo.

Ah, yes. My mistake. Thanks again.

Thank you. The map in the link you provided has different turns than the image in the OP. The map you provided makes sense.

Thanks very much for the link to the info re bowties.

Observation and question from a noob....

[Assuming for this discussion that Bluebonnet/Coursey run north and south and that Airline runs east and west]

With the restriction on the U turn in place, it doesn't seem that Waze knows that you can proceed north on Bluebonnet and through the intersection to turn left onto Airline. If you are proceeding north on Bluebonnet, the only turn that is permitted at the intersection is a right onto Airline. There is no way to proceed up to the intersection with Airline. Therefore, Waze will take you east on Airline until it finds a junction to make a U turn so that you can proceed west on Airline to take you back to your destination.

So, why not simply change the arrow that restricts the U turn to green and allow drivers to proceed north on Bluebonnet? Or change the intersection to a bowtie and restrict the U turn going south on Coursey at the appropriate juncture?

I think this intersection is a work of art. I wonder if something like this would work better for the Bluebonnet/Airline intersection. https://www.waze.com/editor/?lon=-118.5 ... TTTFTTTTFT

Thanks for mentioning my complaint as well.

Since this issue is causing so many user reports, is there some kind of preferred response to those complaints?
