180 degree turn around

Postby razor2k » Fri Apr 26, 2013 10:54 pm

I searched this topic and found no results (Alan :) ) More times than not, when i come to a stop near an intersection Waze flips me a 180 and back again (then another 180 depending on how long I sit) and recalculates route :o Very annoying to say the least.

Not a GPS issue as my GPS has North in a stable location. Anyone know why this happens?

Every GPS I've used does something like this. They are eager to guide you but they can't tell which direction you're heading.

Unless combined with a compass, GPS can only determine your direction by watching which way you move. It sounds like the slight inaccuracies in the GPS are making waze think you moved in the opposite direction, and so it turned you around, and needed to recalculate. I have occasionally seen this behaviour, mainly when in a city where the buildings affect GPS reception.
Perhaps waze needs to wait for a bigger movement after detecting that you've stopped, before changing your direction?

I know this is standard behaviour, but Waze seems to be much more sensitive the last few days. It now recalculates at almost every intersection I stop at.
Due to this, the editing candies also sometimes gets placed all over the show instead of where I'm headed.

The GPS can't tell which direction you're heading, but the Waze client knows which way you were last moving before you stopped, so why can't it use that information?
