Incorrect. Use the 3-state mute button on the main menu. You should read the release notes. :mrgreen:

I've used Waze in the alert-only mode for a long time. After having to do a warranty exchange and getting a new phone, I could not figure out how to get it to work the way that I wanted to when I re-downloaded the app.

While I appreciate your response because it helped me figure it out, this option should be clearer in the UI (maybe a note on the Sound settings page referring to the mute button).

Have you tried clearing the TTS cache? The use of the cc@TTS search code is discussed in the wiki here: http://www.waze.com/wiki/?title=Search_codes

Sorry, not really. Maybe another iPhone user has some ideas?

Just found the 3 state mute button, had never seen that before. I was expecting that to be in SETTINGS/SOUNDS. Thanks!

It could also indicate that you have no network active while driving.
Try starting the route while at home or on wifi and do a map refresh of the area as well. If it is network related, at least the first few roads should be cached and likely properly announced.

While you are driving, do you see any other wazers on the map or get any alerts? If not, it's likely network related.
In that case check that your data bundle is not depleted or that your APN settings are still 100%.

Not sure if this is new, but it looks like the 'street names' options is hidden in the language options.

->Settings
->Sound
->Navigation guidance -> (Language (sometimes with a name or description))

When you select a language, you probably need to select one with "Including street names" after the name. Such as under:
English (US) - Samantha
Including street names

or

English (US) - Tom
Including street names

Note: When you look at the "Navigation guidance", before clicking it, it doesn't show anything about the street name part!... so it's not clear that this is where you need to go to select it.

In conclusion: If you just see this, without "Samantha" or "Tom" listed, then this may be why WAZE is not saying the street names when navigating:
->Navigation guidance ->
English (US)

It was totally unclear that this is where I needed to go for streetnames... and I only found it via much trial and error.

Maybe the uninstall/reinstall helped the person above to default to one of the named navigators who speaks street names.

If memory serves, when I upgraded to 3.7 and opened Waze, a popup message showed up and explained the three-state mute. If you had to get a new phone, and hadn't made that upgrade on your old phone, then Waze would assume that you were a first-time user and that it wouldn't have to explain changes from the last version.
