You might want to take a peek at the localization forum, and ask Orit about what a translation involves.

I saw Orit's post and was wondering exactly the same thing about the translation and user counts.
Personally I don't think it's a bad idea to get Afrikaans on the map if it means more active users and editors
I bookmarked it to check out what the Transifex work would relate to.

If it is just the generic phrases, then it should not be too involved. If its coding a dictionary, I'm definitely not volunteering ; )

P.S. I was toying with the idea of doing an Afrikaans translation for the Wiki in it's current form, just to make sure that the concepts are clear to all editors.
I might actually just go ahead with that in parallel with all the other stuff if I have a few minutes to get my rear in gear.
