Community Manager introduction

Post by amitbena
Hey All!

As Shirli, mentioned I'll be in charge of the South African community.

A few words about my self:
Just turned 31 (last weekend..) and married + 1 (a dog who is a rank 6 local AM of my house...).
I'm part of the Waze family for almost 4 year now.
Started as a Map-team member and learned a thing or two about editing (and prehistoric editing in the cartouche...), and joined the community and support team when established.
In the past year I was in charge of the Israeli community among other team projects.

I'm looking forward to getting to know you and working with you all,
and continue creating amazing things!

Please free to contact me with on any matter.

See you around...

Amit

Thanks
Hi Troy,

Welcome to the forums. Your best bet would be to contact Waze HQ directly probably at THIS link or send a mail to ads_support@waze.com Hope that helps

Hi Troy,
The short answer would be no, it's currently not possible and also not advised to use Waze in it's current form this way.

Waze is primarily intended as a navigation tool, with the larger 'community' providing real-time feedback on traffic just by running the app, and also by reporting traffic-related 'dangers' by explicitly marking specific anomalies on the way.
Even though custom groups were previously part of the Waze social aspect, it was purely intended for people with the same origin and destination on their daily commutes to report traffic and dangers on that specific drive. It was later replaced with the 'Teams' function that allows a bit of a competitive spin that correlates with Teams for major Sporting events, and Waze now automatically reports issues along your route when navigating.

The biggest problem with using Waze in the way you describe, is that Waze bases its navigation on real-time traffic situations by monitoring your speed. If a few guys patrol an area by 'cruising' a neighborhood at slower speeds while using Waze, they could effectively taint the traffic patterns for that area, leading to non-optimal routes being supplied to other Wazers being redirected around the 'slow' areas, instead of just routing them through the main roads of the neighborhood.
Despite going 'invisible', Waze still collects and uses your speed stats.

I'm not sure which other apps, if any, would provide the exact functionality you desire, but I know many CPFs make use of Zello as a communication tool to broadcast safety related events.

Hi Kyle
Thanks for the feedback. But, sorry, I do not want to advertise. My basic question is as follows:

Is it possible to drive around in a neighbourhood in "a team"? All team members will then have the same image but different user name. I am asking this because I can get people interested in becoming a Waze team member as being part of the NeighbourhoodWatch in our area (Pinelands, Cape Town). I am sure other NeighbourhoodWatch organisations in SA will also be interest as this will increase their patrol effectiveness enormously. It is all non-profit and community driven. It would be a bonus if we could be invisible to non-team members. Another bonus would be if we would be able to drag a "danger" image (.gif?) to the place of an accident, problem, lost dog, suspicious person, etc. so other Watchmembers and our local police can react to that. I have some more thoughts on this but would appreciate your comments. Or...perhaps you can point me in the right direction? Thanks
