Wrong driving direction (user reported)

Post by GrimesGuy
I'm new so bear with me. https://www.waze.com/editor/?lon=-93.77 ... TT&env=usa

I asked for info on the report and rec'd a reply. I don't see anything wrong with the turn restrictions and looked at routes online from Grimes to Adventureland and don't get the route he mentions.

Any ideas?

Welcome GrimesGuy to the world of Waze (I believe I've seen you contributing greatly to Google Maps).

Everything checks out from a turn restriction standpoint. It's possible that the GPS track had already placed them onto the ramp heading to I-80 W / I-35 S. They might have also had prior navigation route locked in that would have had them taking that exit and when they locked in the new destination the app had yet to re-calculate.

In terms of handling this report I would alert them that you've validated the route and it should now be working properly, but if there any further issues to report them and provide the start and end destination addresses.

Also, a heads-up on the difference between Google Maps and Waze, if you add in parking lot roads or other similar elements you'll need to do so with a mindset geared towards simplicity. There's a gas station north of this report that has some recent work. The northernmost entry to the parking lot (https://www.waze.com/editor/?lon=-93.77 ... s=76936053) currently represented by two lines, but based on best practices, you can get by with just one and adjust the turn restrictions accordingly. Waze's GPS tracking is very basic, so overcomplicating and trying to add in all lanes can sometimes mean the GPS positioning will jump to nearby segments. Don't forget also to set the City Name and the Street Name (if not available hit the check box next to those fields). That will make any new road you've added lose the RED appearance.

Here's a couple links to help get started:

Waze's street editing I think you'll find is a lot more satisfying than Google Maps. With Waze you can merge or split road segments, delete excess nodes along the roads, etc. It's not going to have the depth/complexity of setting road types that is Google, it's just a bit more whittled down to the basics.

In terms of working with others in the area, I'm based in Omaha, NE and help out from time to time if I see a build-up in reports. Others such as "the1who" and "peedasun" are two others you'll see around the area and may also chime in to respond to your post.

Let me know if you have any questions at all. I tend to do more editing in Waze than Google at the moment, but you'll find that editing in Google is also hugely beneficial to Waze as you'll see error reports of addresses and business POIs not taking a person to the right spot. A lot of that goes back to an approximate marker in Google Maps. Fix it in Google Maps and you'll likely fix routing to that destination.
