The locks are in place to prevent lower ranking editors from making unneeded changes and also to prevent damage to the map. Wyoming is a big state with very few dedicated editors. It would not be difficult for an outsider or a new editor to begin editing without my knowledge. As you said yourself, you have already begun locking segments to prevent this sort of thing.CSTrimble wrote:I agree that there must be standards, but some of these locks are ridiculous. Many times they prevent somebody who actually lives in the area and can confirm data from making timely changes. Like fixing something like this: https://www.waze.com/editor/?env=usa&lon=-104.79422&lat=41.14610&layers=2981&zoom=5&segments=500905302
That being said, I've begun locking some of my edits because of lower level editors changing information I have entered and confirmed to be correct.
Double-edged sword.
If you were to suggest a lock policy, what would it be? I'm open to suggestionsCSTrimble wrote:I definitely understand the need and the reason for the locks. Gets a bit tedious though to have to request unlocks for entire roads/areas, especially now that we can add speed limits to all of the roads.
That being said, I didn't mean to sound ungrateful for the help you've given so far - I do appreciate it!
I'll just throw this out there. What do you all think of this as a new lock standard?FacetiousSequoia wrote:I think it would be good if more segments were accessible to lower level editors, perhaps mH at L2 and MH at L3.
