Speed bumps

Postby CoreForce » Sat Nov 16, 2013 3:33 pm

Hi,

Waze could automatically collect information about speed bumps and high shoulders to pass on turns.
E.g. when a car is running slow, register the data from accelerometer.

Having this, Waze could incorporate this with warnings or even routing, e.g. for lowered cars.
Some routes that Waze suggests I cannot follow with my Ferrari because of bumps and raised shoulders, but would be no problem with a stock Ford.
This road is one example for it:

Thanks

Hi Riasmus,

thanks for that. I can see the restrictions panel in the map editor. That would be a good place to start, indeed.
Do you have a pointer into the thread asking for vehicle types where you can suggest low riding vehicles?

Thanks

That really wouldn't work well as an automatic warning. Cars slow down regularly for a wide variety of reasons. Speed bumps have been suggested before and could be useful, but in general, a road with speed bumps or where it's in really bad shape will have a slower speed, so would be routed around when possible already.

As a note, the new routing restrictions by vehicle type that can be set in the editor could be expanded to allow for restricting low riding vehicles and restrictions can be placed on roads with speed bumps or that are too bad for such a vehicle. There is a thread asking for vehicle types where you can suggest low riding vehicles if you want. Maybe they'll consider adding it. Note that the restrictions are not enabled yet and are only available for editing.
