May as well move on now then. It is not currently in Beta, so it absolutely will not be in production within 3 months.
We have been asking for this for years.
The attitude of staff is they want to simplify the app, meaning removing options, not adding options.

You CAN eliminate ALL alerts by going to Settings > Advanced > Data Transfer and un-check the "Download Traffic Info" box.

It will silence all alerts, but it will also eliminate all speed and closure related visuals.
You will still get nav prompts, and the routing server will still route around traffic... you just won't get a visual on the screen.

Please Please Please give us a way to turn this off without turning other notifications off.

What do I have to watch out for? I'm not driving on the shoulder.

"Watch Out! Waze user's phone flying across lanes!"

Settings > Advanced > Data Transfer > Download Traffic Info <<< Uncheck this option.

You will still be routed properly and voice navigation will work fine, but you will not see any hazard reports, or receive any verbal warnings of them.
Detours for heavy traffic will still work normally.

The main drawback is that, though they will route properly, you can not actually SEE road closures in the app, so if you deviate from the provided routing or you are free-driving without using nav, you may drive to a closed segment.

Every now and then I set mine and it is a very enjoyable, quiet drive to work where I can actually listen to BT music.

We used to have that.
We still get the occasional popup when not moving, but those are more random than anything.
Today, at the first stop before the freeway, I got a (silent) popup about stand-still traffic around the midpoint of my route. There were plenty of alert icons ahead of that point.

Theoretically, the routing server will take these slowdowns into account, but it will only divert you from the freeway (assuming the segments are configured correctly) if it can save at least 5 minutes AND the detour is at least 5km.

Once off the freeway, or if you force a recalculation, it will briefly revert to the short detour prevention, which is a savings of 30 seconds.

Please make it so that you can select which alerts you receive and determine alert distances for each alert!

We've been asking for it here for years, and it is one of the most up-voted requests on the Beta forums.

If it happens, it will happen. If not, Waze management has their reasons.

please at least explain why you have NOT allowed us to turn of vehicle on the shoulder alerts when it's probably the most common modification request you get.

There has to be a reason why you haven't done it. Please enlighten us.

The comment made (long ago) was that the goal was to keep the app as simple as possible to maintain safety given the app is designed to be used when driving.

While I understand and agree with that, this is not something that we're going to be toggling while driving. Like avoiding freeways and toll roads, it's going to be fire-and-forget for the majority of users.
It would not bother me one bit to have a 10 page configuration customization section (disabled while in motion if they are concerned)

s2000types wrote:Good points, but I'm a little confused. Are you for or against the ability to turn off Vehicle on the Shoulder Alerts?

In favor and up-voted on Centercode.

Vehicle on shoulder and Police Reported Ahead constantly interrupt my drive home, to the point that I don't even try to listen to bluetooth music.

On vacation, I noticed that it is MUCH less of an issue even in densely populated areas like Austin, San Antonio, Tucson, and Phoenix... so imagine how bad it is in Los Angeles.

I can see a member of the devteam thinking "It's not that bad"

I always keep reading that they don't want to clutter up the menus with extra options. I'd just be in favor of them eliminating the alert completely if they're concerned about menu clutter.

Menu is a one-time thing when configuring the app the way we want it.
The alert clutters the screen, interrupts music and phone calls, pops-over accident alerts....

And like the "boy who cried wolf"... Both vehicle on shoulder and police reports are 100% useless, at least in my area.

kentsmith9 wrote:I see reports on shoulder for cars on blocks!

People don't realize it should be something that is an actual hazard to moving traffic!

Yep... or on the freeway, but with a ticket on the window.

If it were an actual hazard, making it worth reporting, it would have been towed instead of ticketed.

10ft behind the fog line is not a hazard unless someone is changing a tire and their kids are outside the car.

That blocks the push notifications from in-box messages and special events.
It does nothing to block specific "hazard alert" messages that we don't care to receive.
